Congratulations to Brig. Gen. Bill A. Soliz, commanding general of Medical Readiness Command, Pacific, who became the first active-duty physician assistant in the armed forces to wear the rank of general on May 11, 2024. He was promoted by Lt. Gen. Mary K. Izaguirre, the U.S. Army Surgeon General, during a ceremony at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. ? Brig. Gen. Soliz oversees nearly 4,000 Soldiers and 400 civilians in MRC, P and provides regionally ready, globally responsive medical forces, health service support, and force health protection across the region. He is also the director of Defense Health Network Indo-Pacific and oversees a joint, integrated health network with Army, Navy and Air Force personnel that provide quality care in medical facilities in Washington, California, Hawaii, Japan and the Republic of Korea. ? Congratulations to our newest Karen Wagner Leadership Award winner, Ms. Malelega (Lega) Suaalii-Seales from the MRC, P Civilian HR team in the G-1! The Karen Wagner Leadership Award was established by Army Medicine in 2004 and is awarded annually to an Army Medical Service Corps HR manager in the rank of Maj. and below from each component and Department of the Army Civilians GS-09 through GS-14. Awardees are selected based on their demonstration of leadership, professionalism, technical competence, and customer service as Lt. Col. Wagner, who paid the ultimate sacrifice to our nation during the September 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon. The MRC, P Best Leader teams finished the grueling competition week with combat water survival at Hickam Beach on Wednesday Apr. 3. A huge mahalo to the MRC, P G3 team for putting on the endex barbecue where our competitors surprised Command Sgt. Maj. Joseph by singing Happy Birthday.
