In celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth, we are proud to spotlight Litigation Partner Angela Kennedy. We asked Angela to reflect on what being a woman in the legal industry means to her and how others in the industry can further empower women. Q: What does being a woman in this industry mean to you? I like to think that I'm a lawyer, first and foremost. But there's no denying that men in this industry continue to enjoy most of the leadership positions, most of the decision-making roles, and most of the revenues. The industry needs to do better, for women and other underrepresented groups, and in private practice we have the ability to set standards and expectations for the industry as a whole. I'm grateful that my contributions are valued at my firm and that I have both the support, the voice, and the equity to show that. Q: How do you think others in the law industry can further empower women in the field? Give women chances. Don't second-guess them just because they might approach an issue differently than you, have a different style, or put emphasis on different factors than you might. Empower them by trusting them with meaningful work and letting them run with it. Throughout Women's History Month, we invite you to join us and reflect on women in your own lives who have made a positive impact and celebrate the achievements of women across all aspects of life.

We were proud to host The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis' Women's History Month CLE! It was a pleasure to hear from speaker Katie Wessling, Director of Legal Programs at Crime Victim Center, as she presented a practical overview of the Order of Protection process in Missouri and gave tips on how to work with survivors of domestic violence. As part of #WomensHistoryMonth and our ongoing #DEI efforts, we strive to provide networking and educational opportunities that address systemic issues and strengthen relationships with clients, contacts and professional women in the community.

In honor of Black History Month, our Black Engagement Network and DEI Department hosted an unforgettable discussion with Sarah Collins Rudolph, the “Fifth Little Girl” and the sole survivor of the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama. Partner Untress "Trez" Quinn moderated the discussion that offered an intimate look at Ms. Collins Rudolph’s journey, from the heartbreak of that fateful day to her ongoing advocacy for racial justice and healing. #BlackHistoryMonth
