How can CBAM change to support decarbonisation without risking the collapse of the strategically important European aluminium industry? ?? The intention of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is to mirror EU/EEA carbon costs also on import. The aim is to incentivise more climate-friendly production and to protect European competitiveness. ?? As part of our extensive work with the aluminium industry and our long-standing collaboration with Norsk Hydro, we have analysed the impact of CBAM on the European aluminium sector. While the intention is commendable, there are significant flaws in the current design. ?? If left unaddressed, these loopholes could cause CBAM to favour high-carbon aluminium from outside the EU/EEA over lower-carbon aluminium from within. Ultimately, this could collapse the European aluminium industry, causing job losses and making Europe reliant on 95% imported aluminium. Exciting News from Our Oslo Office!??? We are thrilled to announce that Joachim Pr?sch Johnsen has been appointed as the new Managing Director of our Oslo office. Joachim has been with Arkwright since 1999, and been part of our partner group since 2006. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our former Managing Director, Lars Rimmereid, for his many years of dedicated service and for all he has done to make Arkwright into the company it is today.
