Engineers play a key role in making sure utility companies can deliver safe and reliable energy by designing infrastructure upgrades. It's National Engineers Week! We spoke with Garth Vdoviak, one of our Senior Engineers, who (in his words), does “whatever is needed to keep the operations team happy and the gas flowing!” We asked Garth to talk about the skills he believes are necessary to succeed in the engineering field: “There are two critical skills to being a successful engineer: the ability to apply engineering concepts to real world problems, and the ability to collaborate with more experienced colleagues. The utility sector has been around for a long time, and many of the problems we face have been encountered before. By working closely with Operations, an engineer will gain better understanding of how utility systems operate ... and by working with more experienced engineers, you gain insight into an issue and learn from past mistakes. Using these resources helps an engineer provide a solution that best supports the integrity and continued safe operation of a utility.” We're so happy to have Garth on our team!
