Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders pardoned two turkeys, Tom and Gladys, at an event celebrating our state’s turkey industry. The turkeys were raised by nine-year-old Nevaeh Haile of Vilonia. Haile is a member of the Mount Vernon Enola 4-H Club and Tom recently won grand champion at the Arkansas State Fair. Yesterday, the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Division hosted the 2024 Arkansas Groundwater Summit. The Groundwater Summit brought together experts and thought leaders across the field giving insight to groundwater in Arkansas. Today, the Department was joined by Arkansas Lighthouse Charter Schools, Inc. Junior MANRRS, University of Arkansas Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural Food and Life Sciences MANRRS, UAPB School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences MANRRS, and University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. The MANRRS groups heard from Secretary Wes Ward and leadership from the Department’s divisions. The groups were also provided the opportunity to tour the Department’s laboratory facilities and have discussions with lab staff. Thank you to Farm Credit Associations of Arkansas for sponsoring lunch today for our visitors!

Today, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders was joined by Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward to induct 41 farms from 33 counties into the Arkansas Century Farm Program. The Arkansas Century Farm Program recognizes Arkansas farms of 10 acres or more owned by the same family for at least 100 years. The Arkansas Department of Agriculture established the program in 2012 to highlight these families' contributions to the agriculture industry and our state. Congratulations to Egg & Poultry Supervisor Tina Gage on 20 years of service with the Department! Tina has spent all of her career with the Egg & Poultry Section of the Livestock & Poultry Division. She began her career working in Northwest Arkansas as an egg grader at an egg processing plant. She then began working as a relief grader traveling throughout the state in both poultry and eggs and in 2012 took on supervisory duties.
