Following an investigation by my office’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, Robert Johnson, 58, and Tina Cates Johnson, 56, of Mayflower were arrested by the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office on felony charges related to their exploitation of an elderly victim. Tina Johnson took control of an elderly acquaintance’s finances last year under the auspices of helping the acquaintance move into an assisted living facility. But both Robert and Tina then used the victim’s money for various purchases, including a brand-new car and a brand-new RV. It is heartbreaking that this couple would prey on an elderly person in need for the couple’s own selfish gain. I am grateful to Special Agent Laura Glover in my office for her tireless work on this case, and I appreciate the invaluable assistance of the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs’ Office of Inspector General and the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office. tinyurl.com/yck5jmbn #arnews

Today, I joined 51 other attorneys general in filing an amicus brief before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in support of two military veterans and their families who were unlawfully denied their full G.I. Bill education benefits by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Despite a Supreme Court ruling in Rudisill v. McDonough confirming that eligible veterans can receive 48 months of education benefits, the VA continues to limit access to benefits. This unjust interpretation deprives our veterans of the opportunities they have earned. I stand with veterans, who deserve the full benefits promised to them. #arnews https://lnkd.in/gzdwxJH6

It was an honor to meet DJ Daniel yesterday! At just 13 years old, he’s already making history. Recently named an honorary U.S. Secret Service agent by President Trump, DJ traveled to Arkansas, where he was recognized as an honorary Chief of the Arkansas State Capitol Police and sworn in as an honorary Arkansas State Police Colonel by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. I had the pleasure of meeting him and experiencing his warmth, kindness, and passion. His dream is to pursue a career in law enforcement, and he would be a great officer! Arkansas welcomes you, DJ. I hope you enjoyed your time here! #arnews Cole Jester

I appreciated the opportunity to visit with the Leadership Logan County class at the Capitol today. We discussed the importance of knowing your elected officials—local, state, and federal—and understanding the role they play. It’s always inspiring to see current and future leaders engaging in the civic process! #arnews

Today, I was able to visit with Cave City’s local officials and residents, including Mayor Jonas A., Sharp County Sheriff Russell, Independence County Sheriff Stephens, Police Chief Edwards, Sharp County Judge Counts, and State Representative Bart Schulz and witness first-hand the heartbreaking devastation several communities in NEA suffered. Arkansans help each other at times like these. I want to thank the Arkansas Army National Guard members, volunteers, and first responders all working tirelessly to help. ? This isn’t just about property damage—it’s about lives lost and families forever changed. My heart goes out to everyone affected. I also spoke with local leaders about the dangers of price gouging and post-storm rebuilding scams. ? I also want to thank the Arkansas Baptist State Convention Disaster Relief team for their incredible efforts on the ground in Cave City and NEA. From providing hot meals, clearing debris, tarping roofs, and coordinating emergency response, their dedication makes a real difference. In times of crisis, Arkansans always come together. #arnews

In the aftermath of last night’s severe weather, I want to warn Arkansans about post-storm rebuilding scams. Unfortunately, unscrupulous people may already be preying upon our neighbors by offering quick repairs and demanding upfront payments, only to disappear without completing the work. If you need repairs, contact your insurance company first and don’t be pressured into paying a deposit to someone you don’t trust. Additionally, price gouging laws under Act 367 of 1997 are now in effect following Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders’s state of emergency declaration. Arkansans who wish to report concerns about potential price gouging should contact my office by calling (800) 482-8982, emailing [email protected], or by visiting https://lnkd.in/gRP2y2Px. #arnews https://lnkd.in/ghd5Zw5Z

Please join me in praying for the residents of Cave City, Paragould, and other northeast Arkansas communities that were hit by last night’s storm system. Emergency crews are still hard at work insuring that everyone is safe, clearing roads, and trying to restore power. The cleanup process will take time, but I know that Arkansans will step up to help our neighbors the way we always do in times of crisis. #ArkansasStrong #arnews #arwx

It was very special to return to the Old South Restaurant in Russellville yesterday for the first time since the original location burned in 2023. I was able to spend some quality time with my good friend Dale Summitt and his son Zach at their new location. I was sad when the old location burned down. The original structure was built in 1947 and hosted two presidents and the King! I have many memories of eating delicious Southern cookin’ there with family and friends. I loved sitting at the bar with a cup of coffee, imagining what it was like when Elvis and the Brown family ate there in the big corner booth. I am glad to see this legendary Arkansas restaurant thriving once again. #arnews
