Recently, Karen Ofafa, EdD, MPH, BSN, RN, director, Transition to Practice Program at AzHHA and Larisa Solo, BSN, RN, manager, Transition to Practice Program at AzHHA, spent time at Benson Hospital - one of the program’s participating facilities. During the visit, the new graduate nurses shared how they love the married model of precepting and the competency-based format the program offers as well as finding the clinical content worthwhile. Other feedback from Benson Hospital: ??Melanie Larson, site champion for the Arizona Transition to Practice Program at Benson Hospital, shared what has been done to customize the program for their facility. She said: “The key was providing the new graduates time to complete programmatic requirements. We have made the program training days a mandatory in-person day for our new grads and that has worked well. They come in twice a month for eight hours and complete programmatic requirements. We also have ‘lunch with leaders’ during these days so they can get to know the leadership. This has been key to our success.” ????Velma Cooper, director of nursing, offered some additional insights into the successful implementation at Benson Hospital. She shared: “As a critical access hospital, having AzHHA’s support and the Arizona Transition to Practice Program has allowed us to train the new nurses we need to staff our hospital. The check-in meetings with AzHHA have been very helpful.” Interested in learning more about this program? Learn more and apply: https://lnkd.in/g5NAJtrc

One of the goals for the Arizona Transition to Practice Program for New Graduate Registered Nurses is to provide a professional development pathway for our participants. A key way we work to accomplish this goal is by having our participants engage with nursing professional organizations such as the American Nurses Association and the Arizona Nurses Association. This week, the Arizona Transition to Practice Program participants attended the AzNA regional townhall. The participants learned about the benefits of being an AzNA member and how to engage in the Emerging Nurse Professionals Chapter.
