Congratulations to the City of Phoenix for today's Ribbon-Cutting of the 'Phoenix Navigation Center' near 71st Avenue & Lower Buckeye Road on the city's west side. ADOH funded $10.1 million toward the acquisition and installation of a 280-bed shelter facility that also provides a 'day Labor' component for individuals experiencing homelessness. $3.1 million of the total came from the state's newly-created Homeless Shelter and Services Fund (HSSF). The 7-acre closed campus opened in a temporary capacity in July 2024 and the full, permanent site opened today with both congregate and non-congregate shelter beds through soft-sided Sprung Structure housing dormitories for men, women and the Navigation Center. All housing has air-conditioning and fire sprinkler systems as well as accessible bathrooms. The facility has 24/7 security, access to laundry, and allows service animals. In addition, through a partnership with The Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Phoenix’s Neighborhood Brigade Workforce Program, there are opportunities for workforce readiness and day labor for shelter residents. ADOH Interim Director Ruby Dhillon-Williams spoke at today's event about the importance of the new HSSF and the state's commitment to funding these types of larger facilities to help bring an end to homelessness in Arizona.
