Celebrating National Trails Day with a win for Oak Creek Canyon in Arizona! ?? Where would we be without trails? The time we spend in nature contributes big time to our health and wellness, social connections, and communities. As we mark National Trails Day, we're proud to spotlight the impressive efforts of Arizona Conservation Corps and Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps in rehabilitating Oak Creek trails. ??? For the love of nature! This crucial project tackled the impact of excessive foot traffic on Oak Creek. Unauthorized social trails were causing soil erosion and polluting the creek, endangering this natural site. Thanks to a dedicated collaboration involving new signage and barriers, crews have successfully redirected foot traffic and restored the area. Kicking off in 2020, this joint effort brought together Conservation Legacy's programs, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, Arizona Department of Transportation, Arizona State Parks & Trails, Oak Creek Watershed Council, National Forest Foundation, Natural Channel Design, and the United States Forest Service. Join us in celebrating and acknowledging the hard work of everyone involved in protecting Oak Creek for future generations! ??? Conservation Legacy loves our role as a leading provider across the nation. In the past 25 years, we have built and maintained thousands of miles of trails that are widely loved and used by local residents and visitors alike. We need your support to continue this work. Help Conservation Legacy build and maintain more trails with a donation today! ?? https://lnkd.in/gZCKdZ3j

Exciting News from #OakCreek ?? ?? Oak Creek is undergoing a transformation! Since 2020, ADEQ's Watershed Improvement Unit, led by Ronald Tiller and Elizabeth Boettcher, has been hard at work removing hundreds of user-made trails along all 50 miles of the creek. These human-created trails lead to increased erosion and can carry sediment, trash and E.coli from human and animal poop into the creek (EW!). Thanks to amazing trail engineering techniques from Natural Channel Design and the dedication of Arizona Conservation Legacy crews, streambanks are being restored, and some trails are being reinforced to ensure people have a safe walk to the creek. Special shoutout to Oak Creek Watershed Council, Arizona Water Watch volunteers, for gathering the data showing how this effort has improved stream quality! Remember, it's our responsibility to leave it better than we found it ?? #OakCreek #AZ #LeaveNoTrace #SedonaAZ
