The Arizona Burn Foundation is dedicated to improve the quality of life for burn survivors and their families in Arizona, while promoting burn prevention advocacy and education. Since 1967, Arizona Burn Foundation has provided survivor support programs that help children & adults cope with the devastating psychological & physical effects of their injuries. We assist burn survivors & their families from crisis to recovery, to a life of thriving - one day at a time. In addition, we are the leader in providing advocacy and education programs in the state of Arizona. Collaborating with fire departments and other prevention education agencies, we are the training agency for best practices through the largest and most successful Smoke Alarm Installation Outreach Program in the state. Since 2007, we have installed 18,000+ free smoke alarms throughout Arizona – more than any other organization in the state. In addition, we are changing the face of children's burn prevention advocacy through our statewide education program: Milo & Moxie: Smart Safety Rangers?. Our goal is to address the issue of burn-injury prevention to the most vulnerable population for this type of injury: children under the age of 12 - resulting in a reduction of pediatric burn injuries. For 50+ years, we have witnessed the devastating effects a burn injury has on a child. It is our mission to do all we can to prevent another severe burn injury from occurring. On November 4th, AZBF hosted a community smoke alarm walk in El Mirage in the Coppersun Mobile Home Park community. At this walk, we installed 43 alarms in 14 homes and educated 21 residents with 10 volunteers! We recently had the opportunity to partner with The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA), Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and the Red Cross of Arizona to install specialized smoke alarms created for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. MEET OUR TEAM!! Stephanie recently joined the Arizona Burn Foundation in August 2024 as our Social Media Manager. She graduated from Arizona State University in 2016 with her Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences and has been in marketing ever since. She found her passion in non-profits after she was on the receiving side, when her husband passed away and she knows just how impactful, important and ilife-changing they are. Prior to joining the ABF team, she was the Marketing Manager at the 100 Club of Arizona, and prior to that she spent her career with a boutique branding and marketing company as the Senior Project Manager. Stephanie has two young rambunctious boys that keep her busy! In her spare time, they love spending as much time as possible outdoors, fishing, hiking, and camping! Our Smoke Alarm Walk in Peoria is THIS Saturday! Our Community Smoke Alarm program brings together volunteers and firefighters to install 10-year, battery sealed, dual-sensor smoke alarms and Deaf and Hard of Hearing smoke alarm systems in high-risk households throughout communities in Arizona. You are placed in groups and given the necessary tools, training, and materials to install and educate residents about burn prevention and fire safety. This is a great family- friendly opportunity to make a difference preventing home fire deaths and burn injuries for Arizona children and adults. MEET OUR TEAM!! Melissa recently joined the Arizona Burn Foundation in September 2023 as a Philanthropy Specialist. She has earned the bulk of her experience through multiple roles at the Children’s Museum of Phoenix, spending most of her tenure as the Membership Coordinator within the marketing department. While working at the Children’s Museum, she gained a deep appreciation for working with non-profits, and knew that would remain connected, whether it be through her career or volunteerism. Prior to joining the ABF team, she was the Membership & Communications Manager at the Arizona component of the American Institute of Architects, where she focused on member cultivation & retention, event coordination, and social media management.
