Overcoming Challenges in Product Design ?? Product design is all about balancing functionality, cost, and performance. Recently, we faced a few general and technical challenges while developing Palmtoms Inc. ?? Aligning with Client Expectations We worked closely with our client to make sure the design met their functional needs without exceeding budget. A lot of back-and-forth helped us find the sweet spot between performance and cost. ?? Bluetooth Audio: Classic vs. LE We had to decide whether to use classic Bluetooth audio or Bluetooth LE Audio. The challenge??Latency.?There are many more products supporting classic Bluetooth audio, however from transmit to audio output the latency can be in the 100s of milliseconds. Bluetooth LE Audio can provide an end-to-end latency that is less than 100ms, but there are fewer headphone and speaker options available in the marketplace. While the price and availability of classic Bluetooth audio is compelling, we realized that the latency requirements for a good user experience meant that we needed to go with a Bluetooth LE Audio solution. ? ?? Battery Life We also had to figure out the ideal battery life—long enough for a great user experience but short enough to keep the product compact and cost-effective. These challenges are all part of the design process, and we’re proud of how we worked through them to deliver a product that meets our client’s needs. These are just a few challenges that can come up while developing a product from start to finish. Oh, and it has to be small enough to fit in your hand, use very little power so it can run on a small battery, and be cheap enough to make it accessible for everyone. And so, the concept of Palmtoms was born—a vision rooted in the belief that everyone should have the chance?to make music. ? Palmtoms aims to make music creation accessible to everyone. Taylor wanted to build something that would inspire kids to explore music while also exciting musicians with its portability?and interactive features.
