? #VA263 The Launch Readiness Review (LRR) clears CSO-3 for lift-off? This milestone confirms that the launch vehicle, payload, Spaceport’s infrastructure, and the network of downrange tracking stations are all flight-ready. ?? All is now set for the lift-off March 3 at 1:24 p.m. local time in French Guiana (4:24 p.m. UTC, 5:24 p.m. CET). This mission, called “VA263”, will place the CSO-3 satellite, on board #Ariane6, into Sun-Synchronous Orbit at an altitude of around 800 km. Spacecraft separation will occur 1 hour and 6 minutes after lift-off. ??? #Arianespace will launch the CSO-3 satellite for the DGA - Direction générale de l'armement (French Defense Procurement and Technology Agency) and the Centre National d'études Spatiales (CNES, French space agency) on behalf of the Commandement de l'Espace (CDE, French Air and Space Force’s Space Command). ?? Turbopumps are at the heart of every rocket engine. If they fail, the mission fails. These pumps operate under extreme conditions: driving large volumes of liquid gas at around –200°C, powered by turbines fuelled by gas heated to nearly 900°C. The housing and seals must endure this massive temperature difference while rotating at tens of thousands of revolutions per minute, with incredible durability. At #ArianeGroup, we’re developing and testing turbopumps for rocket engines such as the new Prometheus? engine, and based on our expertise with #LiquidHydrogen we are also working on rotating machines for other applications such as maritime transport and aircraft. Using innovative methods like 3D-printing simplifies engine design, reduces costs and eliminates the need for additional surface treatments, all thanks to ultra-precise printing. We know a thing or two about fuels for heavy-duty transport – and we’re working to make this space technology usable for shipping. ?? ?? #LiquidHydrogen (LH2) has a high energy density, making it a promising solution for sustainable maritime propulsion over long distances. Plus, its combustion with oxygen produces only water as a by-product. However, since LH2 needs to be maintained at the extremely low temperature of -253°C, the severe constraints of cooling and insulating appropriate cryogenic systems presents a huge technological challenge. That’s why we are coordinating the European NAVHYS project with a consortium of partner companies and institutes. The goal: to develop innovative and safe solutions for on-board LH2 maritime storage and fuel systems, with an initial project to equip a Service Operation Vessel serving offshore wind farms. ?? This collaborative project combines our expertise in transporting, storing and using sensitive fuels with our partners’ knowledge from various fields – including shipbuilding, vessel operations, energy and safety – to meet maritime requirements and drive the #Decarbonisation of #Shipping. Supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and co-funded by the European Union, NAVHYS will set important milestones over the next 36 months as we work to develop and test this cutting-edge system.
