Today is Maternal Health Awareness Day, and we want to take a moment to thank the 120 doulas who have completed our community doula training and the first cohort of North Texas hospitals preparing to launch TeamBirth next week. Together, we’re creating healthier outcomes for moms and babies across Tarrant County.
We created our maternal health programs because the need was impossible to ignore. Tarrant County is in a region with one of the highest maternal mortality rates, and in neighborhoods like Fort Worth’s 76104 ZIP code, many pregnant women face serious challenges getting the care they need and having their voices heard during and after delivery.
Our community doula program was designed to change that. We trained individuals from the 76104 ZIP code to support pregnant women and their families. By pairing mothers with doulas who share similar life experiences, we’re helping to bridge the trust gap between underserved families and the healthcare system. Our partner in this project is Trust Her, part of the Child Poverty Action Lab (CPAL).
TeamBirth, a care model developed by Ariadne Labs, builds on this by improving communication and ensuring moms are at the center of their care. This program is creating safer, more positive birth experiences for families across the county.
What do you think is the most important way to support moms and babies in our community? Let us know in the comments.
