Argonaut is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation founded by D. Andrew Ferguson and Douglas McConnell in 2010. Recognizing the workforce shortages and a lack of diversity in the aerospace and maritime industries, they created a combined business/education model that incorporates a project-based learning environment and real-life experiences for high school-aged youth in the city of Cleveland. Our Mission is to build adventurers through immersive learning experiences that challenge assumptions and shift norms for growing empowered talent in aerospace and maritime fields. The corporation’s name was changed from PHASTAR to Argonaut in June 2022; not satisfied with the status quo, Argonaut has developed infrastructure, invested in human capital, and engaged in solid partnerships to propel its growth. The staff has been working diligently to build capacity and implement a strategic plan for expansion and sustainability that will carry it well into the future.

The crews on Flotsam & Jetsam have been hard at work cleaning debris from the Cuyahoga River and in the harbor. Crews include students and graduates from Cleveland’s Aerospace and Maritime High School, who are part of the Argonaut program to help increase the number of youths who enter careers in the maritime and aerospace fields. The Port of Cleveland recently hosted Davis Aviation & Maritime School students for a tour of the Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve. The tour was led by Linda Sternheimer, VP of Urban Planning and Engagement and showcased the Port’s important role in improving access to nature. During the tour, students were able to look out and see the future CHEERS project site, which will be built from dredge material taken from the Cuyahoga River channel. #PortCle #GreatLakes

In 1909, #InternationalWomensDay began to help promote the advancement of women’s rights. At that time, there were no women pilots or mechanics. Today, women comprise 72,000 certificated pilots and nearly 10,000 maintenance technicians in the U.S. alone. As part of Women in Aviation Week, we celebrate International Women’s Day and are proud so many women pilots, flight planners, cabin servers and others have chosen to pursue careers at Flexjet.

This year has been full of many wins and yesterday was a fun victory lap recognizing key partners in the success of Blazing Paddles PaddleFest 2023 - that is, Cleveland's next generation! Yesterday was our opportunity to thank the kids at Davis Aerospace and Maritime High School for their essential role helping our paddlers during Blazing Paddles Paddlefest 2023. As part of Argonaut's safety plan and the Port of Cleveland's Flotsam and Jetsam, these Cleveland youngsters guided by Rusty Deane, helped our 725 guests from 18 states enjoy a legendary morning on Cleveland's hard-working Cuyahoga River! 2024 promises to be bigger and better!
