Argonaut is a non-profit corporation improving the quality of education and public services through Aerospace & Maritime
关于我们
Argonaut is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation founded by D. Andrew Ferguson and Douglas McConnell in 2010. Recognizing the workforce shortages and a lack of diversity in the aerospace and maritime industries, they created a combined business/education model that incorporates a project-based learning environment and real-life experiences for high school-aged youth in the city of Cleveland. Our Mission is to build adventurers through immersive learning experiences that challenge assumptions and shift norms for growing empowered talent in aerospace and maritime fields. The corporation’s name was changed from PHASTAR to Argonaut in June 2022; not satisfied with the status quo, Argonaut has developed infrastructure, invested in human capital, and engaged in solid partnerships to propel its growth. The staff has been working diligently to build capacity and implement a strategic plan for expansion and sustainability that will carry it well into the future.

??Before dusting off the snow and saying goodbye to winter, we share some of our snowiest student skiing memories. From traversing terrain to braving bumps and even weathering wipeouts, we had a blast skiing the slopes at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Many thanks to the incredible team and our partners at Syatt for helping Davis Aerospace and Maritime High School students make amazing memories. ???? #therealdavisam #ArgonautCLE

?As #BlackHistoryMonth comes to a close, we are inspired to share the remarkable story of James Reese Europe Jr., the son of the legendary ragtime and jazz composer and second lieutenant with the Harlem Hellfighters, James Reese Europe. ??Born in New York City on February 2, 1917, James Europe Jr. exemplifies the spirit of resilience and courage. Though details about his educational journey are scarce, his service during World War II stands as a testament to his commitment and bravery. ??He sailed on Liberty ships during the war's early years before being selected for officer training school. At the U.S. Maritime Service Training School in Fort Trumbull, Connecticut, Europe was the sole Black American among 30 students in his section—a rare achievement for Black mariners seeking officer training at that time. ?Graduating in March 1945 as an ensign in the U.S. Maritime Service, Europe went on to earn his license as a third assistant engineer and a promotion to lieutenant (jg) in December 1946. ??As the post-war merchant fleet shrank, Europe chose to chart a new course, joining the New York City Police Department and later the Fire Department, where he retired as a decorated lieutenant. His pursuit of knowledge led him to earn a graduate degree in 1975, and he dedicated his later career to helping others as an alcohol and drug counselor. In 1988, his leadership and commitment to human relations were recognized with an award from the Nassau County Commission on Human Relations. ??Black history is a vital part of American history, celebrated through the remarkable achievements of great aviators and mariners who continue to inspire. Through their legacies, courage, innovation, and perseverance we are reminded of the potential to soar above challenges, break barriers, and navigate storms. #ByAirBySea #aviation #maritime
