During Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, we recognized Pioneers of Change. We’re highlighting Dolores Huerta to close out the month. We invite you to continue learning more about Hispanic history and how they’ve influenced our world for the better. Dolores is one of the most influential labor activists of the 20th century and a leader of the Chicano civil rights movement. She began her career in activism by co-founding the Stockton chapter of the Community Service Organization in 1955, which advocated for economic improvements for Hispanics. She founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962 alongside César Chávez, advocating for unemployment and healthcare benefits for agricultural workers. Dolores was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012, the highest civilian award in the United States. #HispanicHeritageMonth #DEIB

Today is National Coming Out Day! In honor of today, our out and proud Executive Director with Avamere at Sandy, Maddie Almodovar, shares her experience. "Happy National Coming Out Day! This is a day that holds such a special place in my heart. It is a time to reflect on the journey that brought me to where I am today and how far I have come in my acceptance and celebration of self. From a young age, I always knew that something about me was different. I was more interested in being a knight so that I could win the heart of a princess than in being a princess myself. These weren't feelings I would fully embrace until my early twenties.?Now happily married to my beautiful wife, I am so proud of how much I have grown. I can't stress enough how accepting my family is and has always been. My mother is a tireless and relentless advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community, and both of my parents excitedly attend Pride events with my wife and I yearly. Growing up, the message I received from my family was one of acceptance and love, however, I realize not every family is as fortunate as mine. One of the most beautiful things about the LGBTQIA+ community is our concept of chosen family. Working in senior living, chosen family is a feeling and community I know well. My residents and staff have and always will be an extension of my family. This National Coming Out Day it is my seniors that I think of. The queer leaders before me, both big and small, who through their advocacy and representation, have paved the way for the next generation. While the coming out journey can be lonely, and no two stories are ever the same, how lovely is it that there's such a wonderful and vibrant community waiting to embrace you? She will assist our teams in St. George, Utah and Omaha, Nebraska with sales best practices, selling on-site, and reaching high outcomes. Jamie entered the senior living industry 18 years ago as a caregiver and currently holds over 15 years of senior sales experience. She is a strong leader with experience in launching successful marketing campaigns and improving efficiency. ?
