?? They Told Me to Just Use the Cloud. I Chose to Build Something Else for Africa. In 2015, I started building an edge gateway on top of a #solarkiosk. Not because it was trendy. But because the solutions we were told to use — cloud servers, centralized infrastructure, external platforms — were never designed for us. I didn’t know then what it would become. But I knew #Africa needed #infrastructure that works where the internet doesn’t, that didn’t depend on distant data centers or expensive subscriptions. For years, I was told to stop. “Just use #AWS, #Azure or #googlecloud” “Why reinvent the wheel?” But I kept building. ?? And in 2022, the vision became crystal clear: We could replace every traditional #router with a powerful node — a gateway that runs applications offline or online, supports AI ??, serves local users ??, and does it all cheaper and more resiliently than the cloud ever could. That belief — that Africa can and must build its own infrastructure — helped us win the ??
