Dense breasts can make a mammogram more difficult to interpret. This means breast density is one of the strongest predictors of the failure of mammography screening to detect cancer. A Radiologist examines a woman's breast density by examining a mammogram. Dense tissue is comprised of less fat and more fibrous and connective tissue. Dense breast tissue and abnormal breast changes, such as tumors, appear as white areas in the mammogram, whereas fatty tissue appears as dark areas. ?? If you have dense breast tissue, ask your doctor about additional screening studies, such as an ultrasound or breast MRI. ??
