Project Highlight: FDR Evaluation ? Ardaman & Associates, Inc. recently conducted an evaluation of the Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR) base for a County roadway project in Florida. ? Immediately after the FDR process, the roadway experienced several consecutive days of rainfall and unseasonably cold temperatures while the base was open to traffic. This led to the base yielding in some heavily trafficked areas, requiring the contractor to remix the affected sections.?Ardaman performed Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) testing at both original and remixed locations to assess the structural adequacy of the base. Using AASHTO evaluation methods, we evaluated the stiffness (modulus) and determined the structural number of the base layer. ??? Results: Our testing confirmed that all evaluated locations met or exceeded the FDR design layer coefficient of 0.20 per inch, giving confidence that the remixing was successful, and the FDR base was ready for paving.
