Last summer I had the joy (and pain) of bringing my baby with me into the field and also felt the pain (and joy) of leaving my baby at home while I was in the field. I learned a lot about navigating research as a parent and I'm certain that other parent-researchers must also have lots to share! ????????? Thanks Arctic ICEBERG and Tahnee Prior, Ph.D. for creating this survey with me. The survey is for parents who do fieldwork (both apart from their children or during accompanied fieldwork), and our aim is to understand challenges in order to enhance support systems and policies for parents who do field-based research. Help us understand and improve fieldwork for parents by participating in our Parenting and Fieldwork survey! ?? We are conducting a survey to explore the intersection of parenting and fieldwork experiences. This survey aims to understand the challenges parents face and strategies they use in the field—whether working apart from their children or conducting accompanied fieldwork. Our ultimate goal is to enhance support systems and resources for those navigating similar paths. ?? The survey is open to all researchers who have conducted fieldwork while in a parental role, either currently or in the past. We define fieldwork broadly as any research or data collection conducted outside a regular office, laboratory, or classroom setting. Take the survey by clicking the link in the comments! ?? Did you know that microplastics can be found even in tiny zooplankton in the Arctic Ocean? ?? Microplastics are more than just an environmental pollutant—they also contribute to changes in the Arctic Ocean by disrupting the food chain. ??Our Early Career Researcher Alessandro Nicolai from Institute of Polar Sciences of the Italian National Research Council is showing his colleague Francesca Battaglia his research work on how microplastics interact with different zooplankton species and their feeding mechanisms. The goal is to uncover how plastics move through the food chain. Want to know more about microplastics and the attempts to regulate them? Tahnee Prior, Ph.D. is the research lead and co-founder of Women of the Arctic (WoA). Among many other things, she is interested in studying the intersection of gender and the environment in the Arctic. ??? Christine Liang is a researcher at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ). Her role in ICEBERG focuses on how local citizens can participate in ICEBERG's research and monitoring the environment in the Arctic. ICEBERG’s Annual General Assembly was a success! ??? From 4-6 February 2025, we celebrated the first anniversary of ICEBERG with our Annual General Assembly Meeting in Nantes, France ???? This milestone event united consortium members and collaborators, offering a great opportunity to review achievements, receive EU feedback, share updates, and plan for the year ahead.
