Improving the health and well-being of older Californians and their caregivers.

关于我们

For the first time in our country’s history, individuals are living well into their 80’s, 90’s, and beyond. This growing group of older adults offers astonishing opportunities, and an array of unexpected yet exciting challenges. Since inception, Archstone Foundation has responded to the implications of these changing demographics and has supported innovative responses to the emerging and unmet needs of older adults. The Foundation has funded a wide range of grantees making important contributions in critical, yet often overlooked areas of need. Archstone Foundation previously provided significant support to sustained initiatives that have helped confront elder abuse and neglect, prevent falls, and provide compassionate and more spiritual approaches to end-of-life care. Today, the Foundation today focuses its grantmaking on four major areas: 1. Enabling older adults to remain in their homes and communities; 2. Improving the treatment of late-life depression; 3. Developing innovative responses to the family caregiving needs of older adults; and 4. Expanding the health care and broader workforce needed to care for, and serve, the rapidly growing and aging population. With a special focus on California, and concern for older Americans, Archstone Foundation welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with public and private funders, as well as nonprofit and civic leaders, to improve the well-being of older adults.

Do you share our vision of improving the health and well-being of older Californians and their caregivers? We're currently seeking a visionary and mission-driven President and CEO to lead our organization and our work. For almost 40 years, we have used grantmaking, coalition building, and thought leadership to focus on the fastest growing population in the state: older people. In addition, we work to ensure that future systems of care meet the needs of historically marginalized people, are culturally and linguistically appropriate, and serve to reduce disparities in health and well-being. Our next President and CEO will understand emerging trends in aging and complex issues in public policy and philanthropy, effectively work with our diverse Board and staff, have experience in fiscal and financial management, and serve as a leader in the field. If this sounds like you, please find details about the position and how to apply here: https://lnkd.in/gpUAmyAp. #Hiring #LeadershipOpportunity #CEO #ExecutiveSearch The deadline to apply is October 15, 2024.

Ageism Awareness Day is October 9th, an opportunity to draw attention to the problem of #ageism in our society and how we can reframe aging in our communities. Ageism — discrimination or prejudice against individuals based on age — is one of today’s most pervasive and damaging biases. And it is a bias against our own future selves because we all hope to reach later life. We hope you'll join us in our desire to drive more productive thinking about aging, break down harmful stereotypes, consider important intersections with racism, sexism, and ableism, and advance a more #equitable and complete story about aging. Read more in our latest #PointofView blog by Laura Rath and comment below to tell us how you are working to counter ageism. #AgeismAwarenessDay #TalkAboutAgeism #EndAgeism

?? Kudos to the California Department of Aging on their highly successful 2024 Master Plan for Aging Day of Action today in Sacramento! The #CAforALL event served to highlight progress and renew our shared commitment to the #MPA, California's ten-year blueprint for building a state for all ages and abilities. Susan DeMarois shared her vision for how together we can work to continue to advance the Five Bold Goals of the MPA by focusing our future work on the highest priority issues facing Californians today. Kim McCoy Wade, Senior Advisor on Aging, Disability and Alzheimer’s for the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom, delivered inspiring remarks about how California’s multisector plan is leading the nation: “The future happens here first.” Thank you to our fellow philanthropic funding partners: May & Stanley Smith Charitable Trust, Metta Fund, The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation, and The SCAN Foundation for helping make this day possible!

Today’s California Department of Aging 2024 Master Plan for Aging (MPA) Day of Action brought together consumers, #aging and disability leaders, and policymakers to elevate the current and future issues that impact older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers. At Archstone Foundation, we want to add our voice to endorse the recommendations presented by the 6 MPA committees, including these recommendations from the Implementing the Master Plan for Aging in California Together (IMPACT) committee: ? Support a statewide Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) benefit. ? Build a home care system that works for all. ? Prevent and end older adult homelessness by implementing a shallow rental subsidy program. #CAforALL
