The celebration of the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord commemorates the visit of the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary to inform her that she was to be the mother of our Savior. After giving her consent to God’s word, Mary conceives Jesus in her womb and becomes the mother of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. God becomes incarnate in the womb of a woman, and “the Word became flesh” (John 1:14).

Read Archbishop Coakley's latest column! https://lnkd.in/g_VnHZpA "In the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, we have more than 700 catechumens preparing for baptism and candidates who will be received into full communion with the Catholic Church. We met and welcomed them at the Rite of Election at the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine on the First Sunday of Lent. I encourage you to join me in prayer for them this Lent. We can expand this intention and offer our Lenten sacrifices for the thousands of children who will be confirmed or receive first communion during this Lenten season and upcoming Easter season, for the two young men I will ordain to the priesthood this summer, and for the 20 men I will ordain as permanent deacons this fall."
