Don’t worry, there’s still time to lace up and join us this weekend for the UMass 5K Dash & Dine. This race supports student-focused initiatives at University of Massachusetts Amherst and brings together the community for movement, connection, and a little healthy competition. This year marks the14th Annual run/walk hosted by UMass Auxiliary Enterprises (UMass Dining) and you’re invited (it’s open to both students and the community) to enjoy a fun day for a great reason. The goal of the dash portion of the event is to raise much needed funding for the Amherst Survival Center. It’s then followed by the “dine” part when you’re invited to have lunch in their award-winning dining commons. Each year AEL team members look forward to a day of movement and community, including last year when Kevin (pictured in the middle) was joined by his wife, Jennifer (right) and Ken Toong, UMass Assistant Vice Chancellor of Auxiliary Enterprises (left). We invite you to join us at the annual ‘Feast in the East’ celebration hosted by the ERC5 - East of the River Five Town Chamber of Commerce. AEL is very proud to be a Brews Sponsor. The event features over 300 attendees networking and indulging in diverse culinary experiences with more than 40 local vendors, including restaurateurs, confectioners, breweries, and wineries. Plus, Chef Eric is back and this year the event will also feature a special nonprofit spotlight on Square One (Springfield Day Nursery). Additionally, the event partners with Rachel's Table who will collect any excess food from the event. They’ll ensure any unserved food is gathered and distributed to local shelters in need the following day. Have you heard the term ADU? It’s short for accessory dwelling unit but you may be more familiar with their “popular” names -- tiny homes or in-law suites. ADUs are small, independent living spaces located on the same lot as a principal dwelling in a single-family residential zoning district. Garages, attics, and basements can be converted into ADUs, or an ADU can be a newly constructed detached cottage or addition onto the primary home, with a separate entrance. Mass Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities recently they announced that ADUs are now officially allowed statewide and have issued final regulations to help cities and towns update their local regulations. Our own Kevin Rothschild-Shea, AIA, along with family and friends, was proud to partake in this incredible tradition, celebrating a city where AEL has worked on many municipal projects that serve the people of Holyoke. For us, architecture is more than blueprints and buildings—it’s about strengthening the places we live, work, and gather. AEL's commitment to community isn’t just something we do—it’s at the very heart of who we are.

ICYMI, the Amethyst Brook apartments located in Pelham are complete. It was a pleasure collaborating with such talented partners, allowing us to bring this vision to life. We're proud of the results and want to take a moment to show you what the building process looked like.

Thought-provoking report for you folks. According to McKinsey & Company, their report revealed that modular systems can speed construction by as much as 50% and cut costs by up to 20%. Modular design also uses recycled materials, waste reduction and innovative building practices. The question is, do pre-built pods imply a sacrifice to design?

In case you missed it, here is Kevin's interview with Holyoke Media at The Children's Museum at Holyoke. Kevin shares AEL's plans for a number of buildings across town, including plans to put a new roof on The Children's Museum at Holyoke and a new roof over the office space of the DPW, including skylights. There is a lot of work done behind the scenes to maintain good functionality of all of the buildings within the city, and improve the spaces for all occupants. AEL is going into contract now for the roof replacement on The Children's Museum at Holyoke; more to come!

AEL President, Kevin Rothschild-Shea, and Terry Glusko, East Long Meadow Veterans Memorial Committee, will be making an appearance on WWLP Mass Appeal on this Veterans Day. They'll be discussing the plans for the East Longmeadow Veterans Memorial, how much progress has been made, and what funding there is left to raise. Today is a day to honor and recognize the sacrifices made by military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. We are asking for the community's support to celebrate and support our veterans not only today, but every day. Thank you, Mass Appeal, for helping us forster a sense of unity and appreciation within the community.
