???Filing a tax extension is not a failure - it can be a smart move I just filed my own tax extension last week, and guess what? No guilt, no shame, just a strategic decision. Filing an extension isn’t a sign of failure; it’s a tool that gives you the time you need to get your return done right. If you need more time, here are a few things to keep in mind: ? File your extension by April 15 – Use Form 4868 (easy to do online through the IRS website or tax software). This gives you until October 15 to file your return. Check your state for the correct form and process. ? An extension to file is NOT an extension to pay – If you owe taxes, you still need to estimate and pay by April 15th to avoid penalties and interest. If you're unsure of the exact amount, pay your best estimate. ? Your first estimated Self-employed? Watch out for estimated taxes – If you’re self-employed or have other income that isn’t withheld (like rental income or capital gains on investment sales), make sure to stay on top of quarterly estimated payments to avoid penalties. ? Use the extra time wisely – Whether you're waiting on tax forms, working with an accountant, or just need to double-check everything, an extension helps you avoid rushing and making mistakes. At the end of the day, tax season is stressful enough, if an extension gives you the breathing room to get it right, take it. No guilt required. Have you ever filed an extension? Let’s normalize using the tools available to us! #TaxTips #FinancialPlanning #TaxSeason

On a continual quest to understand others. Today, I’m reading about agism, stigmas, and the fear of aging. I’m here to learn. Am in using the right language with clients older than me? Do I hold unconscious biases? Am I inadvertently perpetuating any stigmas? Do I understand how my clients feel as they move into retirement or reach milestone birthdays? What other resources on the topic would you suggest?

??Are you making financial decisions from a place of scarcity? Ever found yourself obsessing over a small discount while ignoring the big-picture cost? I distinctly remember rushing out of a car dealership to use my $10 Kohls cash coupon before it expired. But if my vehicle cost $10 more, would I have even noticed? Never. Hoarding cash even when your investments are underfunded? Hesitating to take a step forward because “what if something goes wrong”? That’s Scarcity Brain at work. When we operate from a place of scarcity, our minds focus intensely on what we perceive we lack (money, time, security) often at the expense of long-term, rational decision-making. It’s the reason we see clients: → Earning $500K a year stressing about spending $5 on coffee. → Hoarding excess cash in a low-yield savings account out of fear. → Avoid investing in personal development or outsourcing tasks, convinced they “should” be able to do it all themselves. Signs you're making financial decisions from scarcity: ?? You focus on immediate savings over long-term wealth-building. ?? You hesitate to spend money on things that could genuinely improve your life. ?? You say yes to work you don’t want, just to avoid saying no to money. ?? You struggle to enjoy your financial wins, always fearing the next downturn. Wealth isn’t just about numbers... it’s about mindset. The most financially confident people don’t just grow their wealth; they also build a healthy relationship with money, one that allows them to spend, invest, and enjoy it without guilt or fear. Have you ever caught yourself making decisions from a scarcity mindset? What helped you shift your thinking? #FinancialPlanning #MindsetMatters #ScarcityToAbundance

??Q: What is the maximum I can contribute to a 529 plan this year? You can deposit $19,000 per child in 2025 without triggering the need to file a gift tax return. If you're married, you and your spouse can contribute $38,000 this year. But wait, there's more... With 529s you can superfund it by frontloading up to 5-years-worth of contributions in a single year.?? $19,000 x 5 = $95,000 this year (then no contributions for the next 5) And if married, you two can give... (drumroll please) $95,000 x 2 = $190,000 Boom ?? __ Pictured: my alma mater, SUNY Geneseo Even back then, I was a planner ?? As an entering freshman, I planned out my entire college schedule from day one - stacking classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays - and making sure I met all prerequisites to graduate in three years. I graduated at 20 because I couldn't wait to get to the "real world." (facepalm). Planning makes that doable. But maybe I could have learned a little balance back then? I wasn't totally serious. Even though I wasn't legal drinking age in college or at my first work happy hour, I became the friendly bartender. I made money while others spent money and still got to be social. Were you more serious or social at college, and do you wish you had approached it any differently?

Rachel Wetz and I hired professional organizers to get our kitchen into shape. Yes, it's a job we could do ourselves...but we just never did it. And the energetic team from Moxie did a better job than we ever could. Now, I feel more at ease and relaxed, knowing exactly where everything goes. Plus, we don't keep buying too many jars of peanut butter and soup because we don't know what we already have. And we're more likely to have friends over since we're not embarrassed about the previous disarray. What's on your To-Do list that just isn't getting done? Would hiring a professional get you over the hump and help you end with a better result than you can achieve on your own? PS: Yes, the pumpkin puree can is bothering me, too. I grabbed it, surprised that we owned it after the pros left. ??

Money is about more than math, it’s emotional. If all your financial questions could be solved within the rows of a spreadsheet, my expertise as a financial planner wouldn’t exist. But fair warning… I do financial planning differently. ?? I believe you can… Make responsible financial decisions for tomorrow, without ignoring what your soul needs today. If life gets turbulent, I’ll help you identify ways to buy back your time so you can take better care of yourself until the dust settles. All of a sudden, money sounds a lot more enjoyable, doesn’t it? Are you ready to let go of the stress around your finances?
