A fundamental take away: More access to low-barrier evidence-based interventions and treatment are desperately needed for people experiencing homelessness. ARC Associated Faculty member and general internist and clinical informaticist at ZSFG,?Elaine Khoong, MD, MS, is now the Medical Director of Quality and Patient Safety of Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center! In this role Dr. Khoong will coordinate and implement quality of care initiatives provided by the Department’s clinical services in the inpatient and outpatient settings, continuing to improve the care of patients “to ensure that it is safe, patient centered, effective, efficient, and timely,”?announced Dr. Neil Powe, Chief of Medicine at ZSFG, Constance B. Wofsy Distinguished Professor, UCSF Vice-Chair of Medicine, and Core ARC Faculty member. ? Dr. Khoong's experiences as a primary care clinician caring for diverse patients within a safety-net setting also drives her research interests. As a Principal Investigator at the IgNITE Lab, she guides quality improvement efforts to improve diabetes and hypertension outcomes in primary care, which includes 14 clinics within the San Francisco Health Network (SFHN). Interested in leveraging technology and implementation science to improve equity in delivery of primary care, Dr. Khoong’s research aims to reduce chronic disease disparities in historically excluded populations. ARC Executive Committee Member and Core faculty member, Dr. Alicia Fernandez was appointed to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force! She joins the Task Force's independent, volunteer panel of national experts in disease prevention and evidence-based medicine, to improve the health of people nationwide by making evidence-based recommendations about clinical preventive services. ?? Dr. Fernandez is a Professor of Medicine at University of California, San Francisco, a general internist at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, and Associate Dean of Population Health and Health Equity for the UCSF SCHOOL OF MEDICINE. She is the founding Director of the UCSF Latinx Center of Excellence, a HRSA and UCSF funded initiative to increase academic diversity. Dr. Fernandez also directs the Latinx and Immigrant Health Research Program at ARC, which generates actionable research to increase health equity and reduce healthcare disparities.?Congratulations, Dr. Fernandez! ????????????

While the national overdose death rate dropped 14%, overdose death rates for Black Americans rose to 1.4 times higher than that of whites. Native American deaths are even higher. The?IgNITE lab?is hiring a Research Data Analyst to join their team! Housed within the UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG), the ideal candidate is detail-oriented and an excellent communicator who will support the growing IgNITE (Investigating Novel?Interventions using Technology to advance?Equity) Lab as a?Research Data Analyst. The position is based primarily in DGIM’s offices at ZSFG but may involve occasional travel to other UCSF campuses. The IgNITE Lab is an innovative, collaborative, and mission-driven research group dedicated to improving health equity. The lab is committed to improving the health and safety of the underserved through cutting-edge research, scientific thinking, and technological innovation. Using implementation science methods, the lab studies digital health, patient safety, and social media to improve health communication and clinical care. The Research Data Analyst will be a detail-oriented, proactive, and flexible individual, with an interest in working collaboratively with a research team on a variety of projects and the ability to work effectively independently and with others. This individual will ensure that the lab’s activities run smoothly by providing research and administrative support to the PI and across programs.
