On the heels of joining the Digital Therapeutics Alliance, we wrote a white paper about some of the key factors that led to our current mental health crisis, and the promise of DTx to help address this crisis. We are committed to a crucial and long-overdue paradigm shift: establishing evidentiary standards, clearance processes, and reimbursement frameworks for DTx. But we don’t stop there. Gaming is at the heart of our vision. Luckily, this means more science, not less… Read our full piece below:

Sending a huge congrats to our colleagues at Big Health for paving the way forward with a first FDA clearance for their digital treatment for Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Having an ecosystem of digital mental health treatments available to treat patients with varying preferences and levels of severity will be crucial to stemming our mental health crisis.
We’re excited to share more big news.. DaylightRx has received FDA clearance! ?? The US Food and Drug Administration has granted clearance for DaylightRx, our digital treatment for generalized anxiety disorder. This milestone comes just weeks after the FDA granted clearance for SleepioRx, our digital treatment for insomnia. There have been limited options for patients seeking non-drug treatments for anxiety for far too long, so we’re thrilled to be able to offer an FDA-cleared digital treatment that is safe and effective with a remission rate of over 70%. Co-founder and CSO at Arcade Therapeutics & Author of Future Tense: Why Anxiety is Good for You (Even Though it Feels Bad)
Those of us in health tech are in a period of introspection because the world at large is coming to grips with the costs and benefits of digital technology. We work as researchers, entrepreneurs, care providers, knowledge disseminators - we know health tech's potential but we also know how it's gone wrong. So, here's our job - figure out how to take the best that digital tech has to offer and build THAT. To do this well, we need a north star, a moral compass to keep us focused on promoting human flourishing and not risk sabotaging it. A north star I believe in the most: health technology should have the potential to be an ?? on-ramp to human connection.?? What do I mean? I mean health tech should have these characteristics: ? It does its job and then it gets us back to IRL; ?It promotes human connection, it doesn’t disrupt it;? ?It strengthens and deepens existing care relationships, it doesn't replace them; ?It relieves human caregiving burden, stress, and overwhelm - whether in medical settings, educational, parenting, or beyond; ?It must meet people where they are, rejecting the ‘if we build it they will come’ approach; ?It solves a problem better than a human-centered solution would. Remember if it ain’t broke, that's not where we should start fixing; These are our practices and aspirations at Arcade Therapeutics and I know a lot of other companies out there are doing the same. Weigh in on these ideas, add additional principles, and give a shout out to your own company or one you respect! Doing this work is hard. We have to stick together.

“Products need to have a high degree of clinical data to support their claims, so it won’t help typical ‘wellness’ products, but is great for those with solid clinical research supporting their medical claims,” says #HealthTransformer Raj Amin of StartUp Health company Arcade Therapeutics on new proposal for three new codes that would reimburse doctors for the usage of FDA-approved digital tools in mental health treatment. Great to see real world data like this shared about how digital therapeutics are impacting outcomes and the cost of care, in this case saving almost $5K per patient annually. Medication alone won’t solve the problem, but a combination of digital, human, and pharma offerings could.
Refreshing to hear a pharma company acknowledge that drugs only impact a very small part (10-15%) of health outcomes (in lifestyle related conditions) , and that the most important driver of outcomes is behavior - confirming the enormous potential of digital therapeutics as essential - fully integrated - part of a holistic treatment approach (and how this proves to save $5K per patient per year...)
