Are changes coming soon to the D&O market? According to a 2024 report by Cornerstone Research and the Stanford Law School Securities Class Action Clearinghouse, securities claim filings increased by 4.6%, totaling 225 cases. AI-related filings more than doubled, while 1933 Act filings continued to decline due to the low number of initial public offerings. COVID-19-related claims rose but remained below the 2022 peak. Although cryptocurrency, cybersecurity, and SPAC filings decreased from 2023, it remains to be seen whether this trend will continue in 2025.
Our latest report,?Securities Class Action Filings—2024 Year in Review, found that the number of securities class action filings increased for the second consecutive year in 2024, with artificial intelligence (AI)-related filings more than doubling from the previous year.
