A carbon-negative power company

关于我们

At Arbor, we’re sustainably powering the present while erasing emissions of the past. Our innovative system transforms organic waste into clean, reliable electricity while capturing carbon dioxide at scale. Founded by space tech veterans who pivoted from building technology to explore new planets to protecting our own, Arbor leverages cutting-edge aerospace technology to tackle climate change. Our mission is to bring gigawatts of clean, dependable baseload power online while removing gigatons of legacy carbon emissions. Earth is the most important spaceship we’ll ever have, and we’re dedicated to restoring its balance. Drawing on our team’s deep aerospace expertise, we’ve created a power system that meets today’s demands while repairing yesterday’s damage. Arbor’s engine, fueled by organic waste, improves on Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) using advancements in oxy-combustion, supercritical turbomachinery, and additive manufacturing. The system turns waste—like overgrown brush, crop residues, and food waste—into clean power, reducing wildfire risks and landfill emissions. The captured CO2 is permanently stored deep underground, where it mineralizes into rock, ensuring it never returns to the atmosphere. At Arbor, we envision a future where human progress and environmental stewardship work in harmony to power our world and bring the planet into balance. We’re proudly backed by climate-focused investors including Gigascale Capital, Voyager Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, and Cantos Ventures.

We had the honor of welcoming representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to Arbor to share our progress, walk them through our hardware, and dive into the details of our system. We discussed how our technology—fueled by the DOE’s Carbon Negative Shot initiative—can scale carbon-negative power in the years ahead to meet the urgent demands of both climate and energy. With our pilot facility on the horizon, this visit marked an important milestone as we bring this technology to life. Our thanks to the DOE team for their thoughtful questions, their belief in innovation, and their partnership in building a future where clean power and carbon removal work hand in hand to bring the planet into balance.

?? With global energy needs soaring, the demand for clean, reliable power is reshaping how industries scale sustainably. In our latest newsletter, we spotlight Arbor Energy, founded by former SpaceX engineers Brad Hartwig and Andres Garcia-Clark. Arbor is rewriting the rules of energy production by combining 24/7 clean power with permanent carbon removal—fueling growth while removing legacy emissions. ?? Here are three key takeaways from this month’s issue: 1???Balancing growth with sustainability: As energy demands rise, Arbor’s system shows the potential to meet energy demands while not only cutting emissions, but also removing carbon. By generating clean power and capturing CO?, Arbor proves that growth and sustainability can go hand in hand. 2???Scaling to meet demand: By 2030, Arbor aims to generate 100 MW of electricity while removing nearly 2 million tons of CO? annually. With the global energy market expected to reach $1.3 trillion annually, Arbor’s ability to quickly scale while providing reliable, carbon-negative power positions them as a strong player in this evolving landscape 3???A culture of innovation: Inspired by their SpaceX roots, Arbor’s team focuses on simplifying and learning quickly. By prioritizing fast data and constant improvement, they show how an agile, first principles culture can drive climate solutions forward. Arbor’s approach is gaining major attention for its impact and scalability, with a partnership secured with Microsoft and recognition from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and TIME. Last week, Arbor’s headquarters was alive with energy as we welcomed over 120 guests to celebrate a pivotal moment in Arbor’s journey: unveiling the hardware for our 1MW pilot system, ATLAS. ATLAS represents the culmination of two years of rigorous design and testing. Set to begin firing this December, this system will demonstrate how organic waste can be transformed into clean, reliable electricity while permanently removing CO2 from the atmosphere. It’s a tangible step toward achieving our vision of carbon-negative power at scale. Our guests had the opportunity to see our hardware up close, learn about the system’s groundbreaking design, and hear how ATLAS will pave the way for our first commercial project: a 5MW facility set to launch in 2027. The conversations were lively and inspiring, centered on how Arbor’s technology can help meet the world’s growing energy needs while addressing the urgent challenge of emissions. A special thank you to everyone who joined us, including investors, partners, suppliers, a representative from the office of Congressman Ted Lieu, and City of El Segundo mayor Drew Boyles. As ATLAS prepares for its first fire, we’re honored to celebrate with all those who support Arbor’s mission.

The future of carbon-negative power is taking shape—right here, right now. After final inspections, our power skid arrived at Arbor's headquarters for integration with our hardware. Soon, this system will serve as the cornerstone of our first pilot, demonstrating how organic waste can become clean, reliable electricity while permanently removing CO2 from the atmosphere. What once existed as design schematics is now metal, circuits, and systems coming together to bring our vision of carbon-negative power technology to life. It’s all happening, and we couldn’t be more energized by what’s ahead.

Members of our team—Sutton, Josh, and Nathan—recently attended Trellis Group's #VERGE24 and returned energized by the momentum in climate tech. What once centered on early innovation and raising initial funding has evolved into a collective focus on commercializing and scaling real, impactful solutions. And it’s no longer just about the technical hurdles; the conversation has grown to the broader frameworks needed for sustainable growth, from building diverse teams to structuring legal contracts and financial underwriting. Power was a key theme at the event. Companies beyond the climate space—like Nike and Home Depot—are actively working to procure clean power and integrate it into their operations. We saw thoughtful discussions on how emerging technologies will shape tomorrow’s power systems, alongside honest reflections on how decisions made decades ago influence today’s build-out constraints. Seeing this movement embrace clean power innovations like Arbor’s fuels our optimism. It’s inspiring to witness the growth and dedication flowing into building a future in true harmony with our planet.
