In Dallas, the average coverage of tree canopy sits at around 32%. But these trees are not found evenly across the metro area. And in a place where summer temperatures continue to climb, that can be a problem. It’s why we plant with a special focus on areas that need trees most. Once a vacant lot, the Sunnyvale Vegetable Farm is taking root in a neighborhood with only 2% tree canopy coverage. This area is also a food desert, which means fresh fruit isn’t always accessible nearby. Along with our partners, we planted 30 trees here to grow relief from urban heat islands and provide nutritious food for the community, including Mexican plums, peach, pecans, and pomegranates.

The health of our water is directly tied to global health. But what do trees have to do with it? And how does corporate investment in trees take on issues facing our water supply? ?? Forest lands provide water for more than 180 million Americans in 68,000+ communities. ?? Trees purify water by absorbing pollutants, capturing sediment, and reducing soil erosion. ?? Trees build resilience to extreme weather by mitigating runoff, preventing erosion. ?? Trees cool bodies of water and support ecosystems and lifecycles within them. When we protect and restore trees, we protect and restore something as elemental as water. And that’s good for business and the planet.

Our forests. They cover our mountain ranges, fill our valleys and line our lakes and rivers. They provide wildlife habitat, filter our air and water, sequester carbon, and are vital to life as we know it. But it is up to us to keep them healthy. Critical efforts to revitalize forests across the country — and around the globe — are underway to ensure that they live on for future generations.

Big impact takes big collaboration! That's why we're thrilled to recognize Arbor Day Foundation as our 2025 Corporate Tree Champion! ?? For 50 years, Arbor Day Foundation has planted half a billion trees worldwide and connected nonprofits like Trees Atlanta to critical funding and corporate partners. Thanks to Arbor Day Foundation, we've planted trees along John Lewis Freedom Parkway, restored Standing Peachtree Park, and replaced lost tree canopy across metro Atlanta. Dan Lambe, Arbor Day Foundation's CEO, sums it up best: "Supporting Trees Atlanta goes beyond getting trees in the ground. We know the trees will be stewarded as part of a holistic community strategy." Read more about their partnership with Trees Atlanta: https://lnkd.in/edCWis9W ?? Let's honor Arbor Day Foundation's commitment to reforestation at Root Ball 2025! Purchase your tickets, or become a Patron, at treesatlanta.org/rootball.

Happy #ForestDay! ?? We are celebrating the world’s forests by honoring their essential role in lives and livelihoods everywhere. Forests are incredibly beautiful, and they also provide 5 billion people worldwide with things like food, medicine, and income. By planting trees to restore forests in critical places like the Amazon, we can protect the services forests provide for both ecosystems and communities alike. We are proud to partner with Arbor Day Foundation to plant 2 million trees in Brazil’s Amazon and Atlantic Rainforests, using a unique approach that incorporates agroforestry systems and prioritizes Indigenous peoples and local communities as key partners. Check out these 7 surprising benefits of agroforestry here: https://lnkd.in/eJqBJcRF and let us know in the comments how you are celebrating forests today! It can be hard to feel like you’re making a difference on your own. The good news is, our members never work alone. In their yards and by supporting planting projects around the world, Arbor Day Foundation members planted 12 million trees just last year. That means 12 million small contributions that are adding up to planet-shaping impact: cleaner air, food security, wildlife habitat, improved mental and physical health, and cities and forests more resilient to extreme weather. The Cauvery River in Southern India is a sacred site for millions who also rely on it for water and livelihoods. But it’s disappearing rapidly, leaving people and ecosystems vulnerable. With the support of corporate partners, we’re working with farmers to use trees to help restore this huge and vital river basin.

  • What does engaging with tree planters in nearly all U.S. neighborhoods mean? It means more than 50 years of building a wide network of backyard tree planters, community-led tree distributions, meaningful neighborhood planting projects, and disaster recovery efforts, with a special focus on neighborhoods where trees are needed most. Most importantly, this milestone means millions of individuals doing their part to plant a greener future. And that’s something we all can celebrate.

  • When we talk about what trees can do, we often say they support biodiversity. But what does that mean? All species in an ecosystem are interconnected, from tiny insects to towering trees and everything in between. Take a forest, for example. Trees provide food and homes for animals that are in turn food for other animals. They also provide clean air and water that plants and animals depend on. The trees need healthy soil to grow, and fungi, animals, insects, and bacteria help fertilize the soil. Other insects and animals carry pollen so plants can reproduce. The list goes on. Because they depend on one another, if one species suffers, it causes a ripple effect of damage. That’s why protecting trees and planting a mix of species right for each environment is so important. Every tree plays a role in keeping ecosystems balanced and thriving.
