Arab American Civic Council Opposes the Decision to Settle Lawsuit Targeting Ethnic Studies

??The urgency has never been greater. Arab Americans and MENA communities remain invisible in state data, leading to stark disparities in education, healthcare, economic opportunity, and civil rights. Despite California being home to the largest MENA population in the nation, we are clumped into other ethnic categories like “White,” erasing our unique demographic characteristics and needs. An inspiring day of learning and community with Pomona College students as we toured Anaheim’s Little Arabia District, led by the Arab American Civic Council. This experience was more than just a tour—it was an opportunity to dive into the rich history of Little Arabia, hear the stories of resilience from its businesses and residents, and reflect on the journey toward official designation. Spaces like Little Arabia are more than cultural hubs; they are testaments to the power of advocacy, perseverance, and collective action. Grateful to the students for their curiosity and engagement. Together, we continue the work of preserving and uplifting our communities.

We spent the day in community with Pomona College students touring Little Arabia District. It was a great opportunity to learn about the people, the businesses, and the history of the area and the road to official designation.

On January 19, the Arab American Civic Council participated in UC Riverside’s annual SWANA Convention. AACC Policy and Advocacy Coordinator Amin Nash and IMPACT Intern Muntadhar Aljadeed led a workshop designed for participants interested in learning organizing and advocacy skills. Our Transformative Leaders Fellow Aya Baazizi led a session exploring North African political struggle, from colonization and the Arab Spring, to the genocide in Sudan today. This included a dialogue on how we could better support both North Africans and the Sudanese people amidst political turmoil.

Yesterday, with Pastor Ralph Williamson’s leadership, we joined a Press Conference in response to the Trump Administration’s Executive Orders freezing federal funds, unconstitutionally ending birthright citizenship, and ending DEI programs. Watch the full video: https://lnkd.in/g-R3YFPD
