Heaters and furnaces are some of the most common components in any refinery. Upgrading the metallurgy of these components reduces degradation and maintenance costs. An FPSO (Floating Production, Storage & Offloading) is an oceangoing vessel that receives, processes, and stores offshore oil and gas, and then transfers it to tankers or pipelines...Essentially a mobile, floating production facility. These converted oil tankers or specially built ships are equipped with processing equipment to separate oil, gas, water, and impurities, and are employed where pipelines to shore are not feasible or practical. FPSOs are capable or continuously operating for 20 years or longer, and even with protective fenders to cushion contact with other vessels, their hull plating thins from constant abrasion and leads to saltwater corrosion.
