???Reflections from AWIM 24 in Dakar, Senegal??? Last week, I had the honor of representing?AQ Studios at the African Women in Media?#AWiM24 Conference?in Dakar, Senegal. The experience was nothing short of transformative—I left feeling inspired, energized, and ready to put fresh ideas into action. The conference was a remarkable platform to connect with media industry leaders, donors, academics, and students. It provided the perfect environment to exchange ideas, explore innovative solutions, and delve into the intersection of?media and sustainability. Some standout sessions that left a lasting impression: 1. Keynote by Media Development Investment Fund: Approaches to Media Sustainability Facilitated by the exceptional MDIF team— Lebogang Maphada, Dara Ajala, Nolwazi Tusini, and Sebenzile Nkambule. The workshop on?"Developing a Business Model & Product Strategy"?was equally impactful, offering practical insights on crafting a business canvas and exploring sustainable solutions for independent media. 2. AI and Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence Workshop?by AMWIK KENYA facilitated by the amazing Queenter Mbori Robi Ochieng’s presentation on her research into Technology-Facilitated GBV (TFGBV) was both enlightening and thought-provoking. 3. ?Panel on Representation and Media: Sustainable Development Through Media Narratives Hearing Christine Sayo from IPAS and the other brilliant panelists discuss their work and its impact was truly inspiring. 4.?Plenary by Fojo Media Institute and AWIM: Kigali Declaration This session shed light on the?commitments for sustainable change?and their implications for the media industry. #KigaliDeclaration tackles violence against women in media. 5. Panel on Soundscapes: From Storytelling to Sustainability in Audio Media and Podcasts Kim Fox and Bernice Gatere, PhD alongside fellow panelists shared invaluable insights on how audio media and podcasts are shaping storytelling and advancing sustainability efforts Beyond the sessions, the networking opportunities were invaluable—connecting with fellow media professionals and exchanging ideas was a highlight of the event. A huge thank you to the?organizers, speakers, and delegates?for curating such an impactful conference.
