APT Northeast

This year's APT Northeast symposium was excellent! The venue, the Canfield Casino in Saratoga Springs, NY, was a fantastic setting for the symposium on buildings, place and community. And I even had a chance to walk around the downtown before, during, and afterwards. Even though I grew up in Albany half an hour down the Northway (and I'm pretty sure I've been to that Ben and Jerry's before...), re-discovering downtown Saratoga's mix of Victorian, Gothic, Romanesque, Second Empire, and Renaissance Revival buildings was so much fun. Very much looking forward to the next one!

#APTNE is excited to announce an upcoming event at the North Bennet Street School This two-day course, offered by instructors at the North Bennet School Historic Carpentry Program, provides information and instruction on the repair and restoration of wooden windows. Day 1 reviews the anatomy and mechanics of wooden sash windows, the process of removing sash from their openings, paint removal, and repairs to the wood frame. Day 2 includes the practice of deglazing glass, glass replacement, glazing, and painting. Founded in 1881, the North Bennet Street School continues to train individuals for employment in time-honored methods and skills. I had the honor of presenting my graduate thesis “From the World to Henry Street” at APT Northeast’s annual symposium in Saratoga Springs last week. It was truly special to share a topic so close to my heart and connect with such a supportive community. Thank you APT Northeast, AYON Studio Architecture ? Preservation, P.C., and many more who made this presentation possible!

The #APTNE symposium is a blast every year, but I was extra impressed this year with the beauty of the Canfield Casino in Saratoga Springs, New York. Thanks to all the presenters— and the organizers, my fellow-travelers at The Association for Preservation Technology, Northeast Chapter. It’ll be tough to top this one, but we’ll try!

Vertical Access would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our own Patrick Capruso, Preservation Technician and SPRAT Certified Level III Rope Access Supervisor, who was recently elected to the APT Northeast 2025 Board of Directors. Patrick joined Vertical Access in 2016, bringing with him his keen eye for recreating architectural ornaments, which has proven instrumental in translating detailed technical documentation of building condition for the firm’s variety of projects on existing structures.
