Is your abstract title helping or hurting you? An effective title will preview the abstract’s content, contain important keywords, and define the scope of your research. For example: Don’t title your abstract “Quantum Entanglement Research.” Do title your abstract “Using Quantum Entanglement to Enhance Secure Communications Systems.” Keep these tips in mind when you submit your abstract for #APSSummit25: https://go.aps.org/3zGZkdJ

Physics was a second choice for Bharat Ratra, who missed the score cutoff to join his preferred engineering program in college. Now, he’s the 2025 APS Lilienfeld Prize winner in physics. We’re thrilled to recognize Ratra for his pioneering research in cosmology and particle astrophysics, and for his dedication to students and public engagement outside the classroom. #OnThisDay in 1947, General Chuck Yeager became the first pilot to break the sound barrier. He flew the Bell X-1 at a speed of Mach 1 — or about 760 miles per hour — for 20 seconds at 45,000 feet in the sky. His flight proved that supersonic flight could be safe, laying the foundation for faster and more advanced aircraft and paving the way for modern space exploration. An unexpected discovery in Physical Review X: experiments with bacterial colonies show chiral flows on the outer boundaries, similar to edge modes seen in condensed matter physics. It’s unexpected because, while individual organisms often exhibit chirality, it usually disappears at the collective level. Researchers believe this trait is likely used to transport nutrients and information through the colony. Read the paper: https://go.aps.org/4dMv4fs
