This week’s #FeaturedFriday shines the spotlight on Padraig Houlahan, author of “?????????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????????? ?????? ???????????????????? ?????? ??????????????????: ?????????? ?????? ???????????? ?? ???????????????? ?????????????????? ???????? ????????????.” He shared a bit about his inspiration and writing experience: ??: ???????? ???????????????? ?????? ???? ?????????? ???????? ????????? “I had been working on a collection of software projects that included the main topic for this book (Airport Activity Data), for more than a decade. I felt my efforts could be very useful for students and faculty as a basis for ongoing research (i.e., as a basis for faculty creative activity and for students to use for undergrad senior theses and so on). Writing the book was a way to ‘tie a ribbon’ on the project; collect the various techniques and solutions together for end-user convenience.” ??: ???????????????? ???????? ?????????????? ??????????????... “I took a top-down approach. I broke the project down into topics and subtopics to help maintain a sense of where the part I was currently working on related to the whole.” ??: ???????? ?????? ???????? ???????????????? ?????????????? ????????? “The book was a result of more than a decade of interest in aviation databases and in how to make such data available. This naturally led to the topic – how to build Python dashboards and how to share them.” ??: ?????? ?????? ?????? ???????????? ???? ?????? ?????????????????? ?????? ????????????????????????? “The structure was based on a natural progression for anyone attempting similar projects. Since I was interested in making a solution available, the solution had to be done first, and then the dissemination/sharing problems solved.” ??: ?????? ?????? ???????? ????????????’?? ??????????? “Not really. But there were times when I was stuck because I didn’t know what direction to take. Usually, regrouping, revisiting the book’s top-down design showed me the direction I needed to take.” ??: ?????? ?????? ?????? ???????????? ???? ?????? ???????????? ????????????????? “Mainly by considering my own personal wish list. At various times I wished I had templates and examples to refer to and wished I had access to a book like the one I wrote. As a scientist and researcher, I had self-taught computer knowledge, and recognized there would be many non-computer science researchers and students who could benefit from my book.” ?????? ???????? ???? ??????????????’?? ????????: https://lnkd.in/e_2u2D9P ???????? ???? ?????????? ?? ???????? ???????? ?????? ????????????? https://lnkd.in/gcs-Fmf? #Apressauthor #motivation #writing #tech #publishing #ArtificialIntelligence #MachineLearning #Python #Dashboard #ReactiveProgramming #Unixhosting

Yesterday Springer Nature and Apress hosted a brunch at #SXSW on the topic "???????????? ?????????? ???? ?????????? ??????: ?????????????????????????? ???????? ???? ?????? (?????? ????????????) ???? ?????? ???????? ????????????????." It was an engaging event and discussion where author Rebecca Baker, PhD delved into best practices for improving quality and reliability within AI-led workstreams. Key insights from Rebecca: “A lot of the things that AI will give us are inadequate for communication purposes. 'I need to be as specific as I possibly can, because I don’t want it guessing.’ That means that we have to refine that skill of breaking down strategic objectives into tactical steps so we can leverage the power of AI—this is a skill that we are lacking today.” A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the lively discussion, including Executive Editor Shivangi Ramachandran and Director of New Business Strategy, Kristen Wallerius. The questions and insights made the session truly enriching. We’re looking forward to continuing this conversation and exploring the future of AI in business together! Check out Dr. Baker's forthcoming Apress title "?????????????????? ?????? ?????????? ???????????????????????? ???? ???? ???????????????????? ???????????????????????? ??????????: ?????????????????????????? ?????????? ?????????????????? ???? ???????????? ?????? ????????????" with co-author Jerome L. Just wrapped up our Springer Nature and Apress #AI brunch at #SXSW 2025. Author Rebecca Baker, PhD shared her illuminating takes on AI for business use with an intimate group, and we engaged in a lively discussion about opportunities and pitfalls. I love that #SXSW 2025 is shaping up to be the place to dig into the realities of AI: what can it do, and what can't it do? What's the best approach for the intended use case? Which industries can it help the most, and in what ways? Now that the initial AI buzz is calming down, the really cool work starts to happen. We can design our workplaces in meaningful ways, using internal tools and data sources that make good sense for context. And licensing Springer Nature's peer reviewed, scientific literature can be a great place to start when using machine-led systems to improve knowledge discovery at your company! Huge thanks to Rebecca Baker, PhD, Shivangi Ramachandran, Jennifer Stotts, Dennis Gaynor and Jason Tuosto for collaborating to make this event a success!

It's here! Available now from Apress/SpringerNature, "We Just Build Hammers: Stories from the Past, Present, and Future of Responsible Tech"! "We Just Build Hammers" brings to life the stories of the unsung heroes of responsible tech and the science fiction that inspired them. The book spans 100 years of history: from the advent of the atomic age, to the formative years of computing; from the open source revolution of the 2000s, to the tech justice movement of today. This book challenges technologists to consider for themselves whether they’re really just “building hammers”—neutral tools whose potential for good balances their potential for harm—or if they are unwittingly contributing to systems that exacerbate inequality, inequity, and injustice. This week’s #FeaturedFriday shines the spotlight on Bonan Liu, author of “???????????????????? ?????????????????????? ????????????????????: ?? ?????????????????? ?????????? ???? ???????????????? ?????? ???????????????? ??????????????????.” He shared a bit about his inspiration and writing experience: ??: ???????? ???????????????? ?????? ???? ?????????? ???????? ????????? “In early 2024, while preparing for interviews, I noticed a lack of resources on #concurrencyprogramming, despite plenty on coding and system design. To bridge this gap, I launched a blog series aimed at helping candidates while also offering insights for interviewers less familiar with multithreading topics. The positive response from readers inspired me to expand these posts into a formal book. My goal is to provide a valuable resource for those preparing for concurrency programming interviews, especially in a job market shaken by tech industry layoffs.” ??: ?????? ?????? ?????? ???????????? ???? ?????? ?????????????????? & ???????????????????????? ???? ?????? ????????? “I chose to outline the most common building blocks for solving concurrent programming interview questions, following each with a detailed example problem to reinforce the concept. Additionally, I strongly believe in Linus Torvalds’ famous words: 'Talk is cheap. Show me the code.' With this philosophy in mind, I included at least one example program for every concept covered in the book. I want readers to leverage these programs to deepen their understanding of the underlying logic and apply their knowledge with confidence.” ??: ???????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????????? ???? ?????????? ???????? ???????????????????? ???????? ?????????????? ?????????? ???? ???????????????? ???? ???????? ????????? “My writing style has been strongly influenced by ?????????????? ?????????????? ????????**** by Josh Bernoff. Practicing its principles has made written communication far easier than the rigid methods I was taught in college. As a nonfiction author and a #softwareengineer who writes technical documentation in the daytime job, I’ve found concise writing to be invaluable. I believe the greatest value of my book is breaking down complex technical concepts into clear, easy-to-digest content, sparing readers from the same struggles and confusion I once faced.” ?????? ???????? ???? ??????????’?? ????????: https://lnkd.in/epdS7tYi Want to write a tech book for Apress?
