I was grateful to participate in #EITUrbanMobility at #SmartCityBarcelona last week and discuss the future of mobility. My key takeaway was this: We are poised to scale shared autonomous transport across Europe, yet many cities lack the roadmaps and funding to reshape their mobility and transportation systems. During the open workshop, we identified numerous challenges and potential solutions to help cities overcome these barriers. On September 26, the #Future5GRide project will showcase key enablers for #autonomous transport in #KistaInnovationPark, focusing on safe and inclusive journeys. Visitors can experience a ride in the #driverless vehicle and learn about crucial aspects such as robustness, passenger interaction and the ability of #5G to serve various strict application requirements on demand - known as differentiated connectivity. Olav Madland, CEO of #AppliedAutonomy AB, is enthusiastic about scaling these autonomous transport services in Sweden and Europe. He says: "Based on the outcomes of this project, mobility operators can offer passengers a seamless and comfortable experience in driverless vehicles. Here is a report for implementation of dynamic DRT with drivers. The DRT plan can be implemented partially or fully with autonomous vehicles now, and provide 40% cost savings! Our customers have now statistics from xFlow documenting 99,99% autonomous transportation with autonomous connected buses. How have it been possible? Because xFlow helps the customer and their vendor of the vehicle and ADS system to improve operation based on a shared insights. They have a common understanding of concrete needs for improvements every day and week. There are two approaches for efficient usage of autonomous transport of people. Dynamic DRT pooling with vehicles for 4 to 15 passengers, and autonomous buses with room for 15 to 50 passengers. Why autonomous vehicles? Because they can operate without a driver and therefore save costs, and then cities can deliver more public transport services. There is a lack of bus drivers, so why not? Energy consumption is lower due to optimized driving, and damages are reduced due to the system safety of these vehicles. Autonomous buses are flexible as well as the smaller ones. You know best which size you needs for your service.
