One of my favorite things about Donatos Pizza (besides the pizza, of course) is its commitment to innovation in the name of consistency. Jim Grote, who founded the company in 1963, invented his own pepperoni slicer to ensure consistent placement of the 100 pepperonis that layer a large pizza, and today you can still find Jim at the innovation hub next door to HQ here in Columbus, where Donatos incubates ideas and companies that support a more efficient and creative future. That includes new automated kitchen equipment that Donatos is rolling out to speed up pizza production and allow employees more time for guest interaction. I caught up with recently appointed CEO Kevin King to talk about the new equipment and how it fits within the spirt of innovation that has permeated Donatos for over 60 years.
