?? PRACTICE TIP: JUVENILE FAST-TRACK CASES IN FOURTH DISTRICT DIVISION TWO ?? Division Two of the Fourth Appellate District has recently implemented a new policy for juvenile fast-track cases that applies to both dependency and delinquency transfer matters. When the respondent's brief is filed, the court sets the case for oral argument and sends an order to the parties that (1) oral argument will be held on one of two dates, (2) provides the date that a formal calendar notice will be sent, and (3) advises that the tentative opinion will be provided at a later date. ? The letter sent with the tentative opinion will give the parties an opportunity to waive oral argument within five (5) days. If waivers are not received from all parties within that time, the matter will remain on calendar as noticed.

Pacific Juvenile Defender Center will be presenting a virtual webinar regarding Welfare and Institutions Code section 875(a) and challenging SYTF commitments. It will cover how to get organized from the outset using a checklist, conduct thorough investigations into SYTF facilities and programming, and research viable alternatives to SYTF placements. It will further discuss ways to collaborate with the defense community and cultivate experts, develop a case theory that aligns with each client's unique needs, and address the mechanics of advocacy, all with the focus of promoting the statutory goal of eventual community rehabilitation.
