In Kentucky, common landslide triggers are: - intense or prolonged rainfall - saturated soil (increasing pore water pressure) - artificial fill, or other weight, added to the top of a slope - road cuts or stream erosion that remove the slope base - clearing trees, plants, or other vegetation

A new blog post by Philip Prince is up on the Appalachian Landslide Consultants website! In this one, he impressively locates a 121-year-old debris flow in lidar, and illustrates a debris flow with a sand model.

ALC's Co-owner and Principal Geologist, Jennifer Bauer, P.G., was the invited speaker for the PAUSE webinar series on Nov. 6. She spoke about Landslides in Western NC, USA and made comparisons to landslides in Pakistan, many of which are triggered by extreme precipitation events. This webinar series is hosted by The Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at North Carolina State University (NCSU), Fatima Jinnah Women University, Lahore College for Women University, Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences (LUAWMS), Behria University Karachi and Sardar Bahadur Khan University for Women.
