Today, we recognize the enduring presence and contributions of Indigenous communities across the region now known as Appalachia. We honor Native groups’ practices of care, reciprocity, and sustainability, knowing these are the values positively shaping the future of this region. AFN remains steadfast in our commitment to a just transition that requires confronting historical injustices. Appalachian Helene Response Fund Update October 1st, 2024

I'm heartened to announce the launch of the Appalachian Helene Response Fund, organized by the Appalachia Funders Network. This fund is dedicated to supporting the communities across our region devastated by Hurricane Helene. Our network spans six states, and many of our member organizations and their communities are still grappling with the aftermath, including the loss of power and communication. We are pleased to announce AFN's new community of practice,?Finance and Impact Investing! This members-only?initiative?comes at the request of several AFN members, particularly from CDFIs, who have expressed the need for a dedicated space to address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by financial institutions outside traditional philanthropic or grant-oriented frameworks. As with all AFN structures, this opt-in email list and community will focus on sharing best place-based practices within our six-state Central Appalachian footprint. Additionally, it will provide a forum for members to share opportunities, challenges, technical questions, and insights, allowing peers and experts within the network to lend their expertise.
