The API Innovation Center was joined by Corning Incorporated and Waters Corporation at the opening of our Research and Development lab at University of Missouri-Saint Louis last week. During the lab tours, Corning’s Jeremy West showcased their state-of-the-art lab equipment and Waters’ Elizabeth Bergman explained their cutting-edge analytical equipment. Utilizing these advanced technologies from Corning and Waters, APIIC is developing advanced manufacturing processes that will help to revolutionize the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. Their continued support of our mission strengthens our efforts to ensure every hospital, pharmacy and patient has access to high-quality domestically produced critical medication. We are grateful for their partnership in advancing national health security and driving innovation in the industry. #PharmaceuticalManufacturing #AdvancedManufacturing #AMT #Innovation #APIInnovationCenter

Last week, the API Innovation Center published our market research paper, "Benefits and Barriers to Adopting Advanced Manufacturing Technology in the Pharmaceutical Industry," an analysis of the opportunities and obstacles associated with the adoption of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (AMTs) in the U.S. pharmaceutical industry. According to our survey conducted with PharmaACE, many respondents see the benefits of adopting AMTs, with 90% citing increased efficiency as extremely beneficial and 83% seeing ease of scale up as an extreme benefit. Still, 78% of respondents cited regulatory uncertainty, particularly in navigating FDA approval processes for facilities transitioning from batch manufacturing, as a major barrier to adopting AMTs. This underscores the importance of strengthening collaboration with regulatory bodies like the FDA to streamline approval processes for AMTs and receive necessary documentation and validation.
