Great to get a tour of the office and explore the ways that he has been helping the Apex community for years. Always a great meeting when you bring together a couple of superstars! Meet Ivania Gutiérrez and ??Jessica Myers. Ivania leads Connecting Community, a nonprofit based in Aoex that is spreading the word about the great work being performed in our region. Jessica just moved to the Triangle from California and is bringing her many talents to us through her business Be You Bloom?. She helps teams experience internal joy through positive Brian habits that fuel organizational wins and happy clients. It was almost instant karma when these 2 met each other and they are already talking of ways that they can collaborate and bring more impact to our community. Great meeting with Michele Bandy of Grace Christian School and Katie McMillan who volunteers with Grace Christian. Did you know that this school that currently operates in Raleigh and Cary is consolidating by moving the entire system to Apex? It will be located just north of US 1 off Veridea Parkway. Based on the renderings, this will be a great campus that allows for more classroom space and to have all grade levels represented on one campus. Not to mention all of the amenities and special touches that will be worked into the design. Still time for you to be involved in the naming or donating to help them meet their fundraising goal (reach out directly to Michele). We love our first responders! Taking time to recognize our special community leaders with an event that allowed the business community to thank the first responders firsthand! We celebrated the occasion with a special focus on requested needs. Instead of us, guessing what would be helpful, we asked directly of our first responders what were items we could get them to help them in their work. That resulted in the presentation of a Blackstone grill to our policeman, with several convection ovens being given to our firefighters and policeman in our fire and public safety stations cross Apex. Got an exclusive tour of the new TMSA Public Charter Schools High School building from Ben Karaduman, superintendent and Fatih Sahin. What an amazing program they have put together from elementary to high school to give students many different pathways towards a career of their choice. Doing some field visits for intercity trip and came across this gem — Mercer County Chamber of Commerce in Harrodsburg Kentucky. Led by Jill Cutler, they continue to bring lots of energy to their region. On this day, the downtown was preparing for their annual Beats, Bites, and Brews, which is a 3-day festival. Headliner was “Unchained,” a Van Halen tribute band (great pick BTW). I was part of a team doing a little running relay called the Bourbon Chase that went through this bucolic community. Our timing was was impeccable as our runners came through around midnight so we got to hear the music from the stage in the background. One of many memories from our weekend in Kentucky. Catching up with with statewide superstar Jeffrey R. Sural of Sural Consulting. He is helping North Carolinians get connected via access to broadband and advocating for more access via technology. And on this visit, we got to talking about a nonprofit where Jeff is volunteering that repurposes old computers and laptops for use back into our communities. Check out the incredible nonprofit Kramden Institute where you can donate your used computers and laptops and they safely and securely refurbish and award such items to students, nonprofits, and adults in need (more than 4k awarded annually!). Jeff and I met in Leadership North Carolina where I quickly picked up on his passion to serve others and to be an expert in the field of broadband access. He is very successful in both of those areas (and elsewhere where he applies his attention and many talents). Just goes to show you what impact can be made when you focus on the intentionality of building community together! #LetsChamber
