Apex, in collaboration with Hy-Vee, Inc., recently completed the construction of a 560-foot-long bioswale at the new Hy-Vee Distribution Center in Cumming, Iowa. The goal of the bioswale is to concentrate and treat stormwater runoff from the facility’s parking lot. Bioswales are channels with an engineered subgrade, amended soil and a subsurface drain, designed to convey stormwater runoff while removing any debris. This particular bioswale was seeded with native Iowa grasses and flowers to aid in water absorption and to provide a habitat for local pollinators. Apex is proud to support Miami International Airport (MIA) in achieving Level 1 Airport Carbon Accreditation, the global standard for carbon management in airports. This effort aligns with Miami-Dade County’s Race to Zero and the Climate Action Strategy that calls for MIA to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% by 2030. Apex played a key role in identifying and quantifying MIA’s GHG emissions and preparing the necessary documentation for accreditation. Apex and PBS jointly pursued an opportunity to perform safety training at King County Solid Waste Division (Seattle area). A leading global biopharmaceutical manufacturer has partnered with Apex for assurance services for over 10 years. Apex has assured our clients greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, including Scope 1, Scope 2 (location-based and market-based), and several Scope 3 emissions. In addition to GHG, Apex has assured energy consumption, renewable electricity purchases, water withdrawal, and waste generation across its global footprint. To better understand and evaluate our client's operations and data management processes, Apex conducted site visits at several of their North American manufacturing locations and will visit their EU manufacturing locations in the next assurance cycle.
