This #EuropeanWeekForWasteReduction, let’s celebrate the power of steel in reducing packaging waste. In 2022, 80.5% of steel packaging in Europe was ‘really recycled’, hitting a record high and meeting the EU’s 2025 target four years early. Steel is Europe’s most recycled packaging material, thanks to its unique magnetic properties, which make it easy to recover from waste, and its ability to be recycled endlessly without losing quality. #EuropeanWeekForWasteReduction #PackagingWaste #ReduceWaste #Sustainability #SteelforPackaging #SteelPackaging #Packaging #SustainablePackaging?

This #EuropeanWeekForWasteReduction, let’s talk about food waste. ? of all food in Europe is thrown away, this waste occurs at every stage- from markets and retailers to restaurants and our homes. Before we focus on producing more food to meet the needs of a growing population, we need to tackle the waste problem. Steel packaging is part of the solution, here’s why: - Food packed in steel is picked at the height of freshness, retaining maximum nutrients.? - Steel’s durability ensures minimal loss during transport and handling.? - Portion-sized packs and longer shelf life help prevent spoilage. ?? What an insightful panel at the Packaging Europe Sustainability Summit! EUROPEN, European Commission EXPRA - Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance, and Nestlé just shared an interesting discussion on the future of sustainable packaging. Key topics included: ?? Enhancing global competitiveness ?? Strengthening the single market and secondary raw materials in the EU ?? Advancing waste recycling and designing for recyclability ?? Streamlining reporting to ease administrative burdens ?? EPR, waste prevention targets, and infrastructure development At Steel for Packaging Europe, we’re especially pleased to see progress toward a Design for Recycling legislative framework that prioritises high recyclability. Let's keep moving towards a circular, more sustainable future! ???? #PPWR #circularchampions #whysteelrecylesforever #designforrecycling #SustainablePackagingSummit2024 #sustainablepackagingsummit

"Circular economy is becoming 'need to have' rather than 'nice to have.' That was just one of the messages from our policy debate on priorities for the Circular Economy Act, held Tuesday in the European Parliament and hosted by MEP Dimitrios Tsiodras . Luc Brantjes, Mathias Kirkegaard and Marco Musso shared insights with policymakers, stakeholders and representatives from the #Steelforpackaging industry in a debate moderated by Sanne Savelsbergh. Open, and occasionally and challenging, conversations covered priorities for the new Circular Economy Act, Design-for-recycling requirements and the importance of high-quality recycling. Some other key quotes from the conversation: ? EU must leverage and find incentives to enforce circular economy legislation, ? Sustainability needs to be the easy choice for consumers, ? Extended Producer Responsibility will play a key role, ? Recycling is a means toward circularity rather than an end, ? The EU steel industry is committed on its path to decarbonisation. Look out for a full overview from our event partner? The Parliament in their December 9th issue! #Steel #Packaging #Recycle #CircularEconomy #whysteelrecylesforever #circularchampions Steve Claus Metka Cavka Luciani Alexandra ?arinová Richard Lézé Anastasia Kelesiadou Arnas Liauksminas

?? Challenging yes, but also the pathway from 80,5% recycling rate today to 100% recycling in the future... Thanks Euractiv for the insightful conversation, thanks Luc Brantjes for your input.
Harmonising EU steel recycling infrastructure remains challenging, says industry report [Advocacy Lab Content]: When countries dispose of steel in landfills, it means they don’t have access to the proper infrastructure to recycle it, Steel for Packaging Europe President Luc Brantjes told Euractiv.

With the upcoming Circular Economy Act, the EU aims to create market demand for secondary materials and a single market for waste. ?? What are the necessary steps for effectively implementing the EU packaging regulation (#PPWR)? ?? How can a shift from a waste-based to a resource-based framework benefit the EU? Next week's Breakfast Policy Debate hosted by Dimitrios Tsiodras will bring together Eline Boon, Mathias Kirkegaard and Luc Brantjes among others for a meaningful debate about the future of packaging waste. https://lnkd.in/eWxH9YJC #Steel #Packaging #Recycle #CircularEconomy #whysteelrecylesforever #circularchampions

Adiós Barcelona! It was a pleasure to talk about permanent materials at last week's Sustainability in Packaging Europe 2024 (and show off our new branding to the 600+ participants ??) ?? Recyclable does not mean circular, ?? Only permanent materials such as steel are truly circular, ?? Permanent materials need never end up as waste in landfills or incinerators. ?? Achieving our industry's vision of 'zero steel packaging to landfill' is not only environmentally responsible but also economically beneficial, because all steel products need recycled material as part of the production process. Thanks to Euractiv for the insightful conversation. #whysteelrecyclesforever #steelforpackaging #circularchampions
