APDU is a national network that links users, producers and disseminators of government statistical data.
关于我们
APDU is a membership network of individuals and organizations that provide a voice for public data. We foster communication between data users and stakeholders regarding important issues of government information and statistical policy. Our members share a vital concern about the collection, dissemination, preservation, and interpretation of public data. As an association we are committed to helping users identify public data that meet their needs and apply those data in cost-effective and appropriate ways, establishing effective two-way communication between data producers and users, and bringing the perspectives and concerns of public data users to bear on important issues of government information and statistical policy.

Some good news (and evidence that advocacy matters).
Good news: The CPS sample may not be reduced! We heard today (3/10/25) that the House Education and Workforce Committee recommends supporting the BLS with $6 million in increased funding in the proposed Full Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025. BLS can use this to sustain data quality and the sample size necessary for publication of important granular statistics. This increase in funding is a positive step towards restoring BLS’s capacity to meet consequential national data needs, particularly by shoring up resources for the Current Population Survey. The requested allocation for the Full Year CR represents an increase that is necessary to fund critical initiatives at BLS and to strengthen ongoing data collection efforts. Without these funds, BLS will be forced to curtail spending on the Current Population Survey, which will delay modernization of this vital source for labor force statistics and could endanger data quality or continuity. This is a necessary step, but not sufficient. First, the CR needs to be adopted by the House, then the Senate, before going to Trump.??And, of course, however much it is needed, this is just a band-aid. Next, BLS needs $25 million to modernize the CPS. But we can still celebrate this.

Webinar from CSET: Red-teaming is often cited as a solution for many of the potential problems posed by AI adoption. But it’s not that simple. While it can be a valuable tool in a broader test and evaluation toolkit, red-teaming has many limitations and is far from a silver bullet. https://lnkd.in/gaDnTg4q

"Representatives of the U.S. DOGE Service have sought access to a powerful database of nearly all U.S. workers’ earnings kept by the health department’s child support office, setting off another disagreement with career staff over demands for legally protected records, according to four people familiar with the matter." https://lnkd.in/gDZTwC-i

"The longtime head of the American Statistical Association (ASA), Ron Wasserstein, says these panels also serve an important role as watchdogs. “Disbanding them eliminates an important check on how well the government is doing its work,” he says. Last summer, ASA?issued a report?citing serious threats to the 13 federal statistical agencies, including inadequate budgets and political interference." Thanks to Jeffrey Mervis for this coverage of an important issue https://lnkd.in/en5J2c7d
