Wood is the sustainable choice! In an effort to make their data centers greener and carbon negative by 2030, Microsoft is breaking away from traditional construction methods and replacing materials like steel and concrete with engineered wood. For the first time, they are testing cross-laminated timber (CLT) for data centers in a northern Virginia suburb. By integrating CLT, they are expecting to cut embodied carbon emissions by as much as 35%. Read more > apawood.ly/hqzL50U3wFz #MassTimber #Sustainability

We are excited to announce Talbot B. Rueppel has joined the APA team as the new Staff Scientist within our Technical Services Division (TSD). Talbot earned his undergraduate degree in Renewable Materials from the University of Idaho and went on to complete his master’s degree in Wood Science and Engineering at Oregon State University. During his undergrad, Talbot worked as a Manufacturing Process Intern for Universal Forest Products and as a Quality Control Intern for Norbord. After earning his B.S. degree, he worked as a Business Associate for Packaging Corporation of America before pursuing his M.S. degree at OSU. His research at OSU focused on using spectrometry to quantify percent wood failure in adhesive bonds. Talbot then joined the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) as a Research Materials Engineer where he characterized and developed sustainable wood-based military construction materials and specifications. Please join us in welcoming Talbot! #APATechTeam #EngineeredWood
