South 8 Technologies was recognized in the Green Energy category for its liquefied gas electrolyte, LiGas. Compared to traditional liquid electrolytes, LiGas addresses common concerns with lithium-ion batteries by virtually eliminating the risk of thermal propagation and battery fires, enhancing the range and performance of batteries in extremely cold environments, and reducing production costs of Li-ion batteries. Instead of coating electrodes in a toxic slurry and evaporating the liquid at high temperatures, AM Batteries has pioneered a manufacturing technique that sprays the powder coating directly onto electrodes, eliminating the need for heat, dry time, or solvents.
