What is grief, if not love persevering? Join us in honoring the lives of beloved children gone too soon at our Annual Memorial Service & Butterfly Release on March 8th at Aggie Park. This heartfelt event brings together families who have found comfort, community, and healing through Any Baby Can’s Bereavement Program. Grieving the loss of a child is an unimaginable journey, but no family should have to walk it alone. From July 2023 to June 2024, our bereavement program provided compassionate support to 478 families, an 18% increase from the previous year. Through this program, parents and guardians receive: Funeral Assistance ? Burial Plot at Chapel Hill Cemetery ? Urn or Casket ? Keepsake Grief Counseling & Support ? 8 one-on-one counseling sessions (4 per parent/guardian) ? Monthly support groups at ABC Support Materials for Grieving Families ? A thoughtful care package, including a candle, teddy bear, and books on loss for parents and siblings By supporting the Butterfly Release and Bereavement Program, you are lifting up families across Southwest Texas, reminding them that love never fades—it perseveres. We've all watched the heartbreaking fires in California over the last week. Tragically, several of the people who died in the fires lived with disabilities that made evacuating more difficult. Disasters are harder on people with disabilities, but many response systems still struggle to meet the needs of our incredibly vulnerable children and families. And in the aftermath of a disaster, people with disabilities face unique challenges. Shelter environments can be very overwhelming for children sensitive to sound and light. Medications may have gone missing and pharmacies and doctors are unreachable. Nonprofit organizations just like ABC are responding to their community in California. As our dedicated supporters, we wanted to share sister organizations in California helping families just like ours through this disaster. AAC Disaster Relief?responds to nationally declared disasters on behalf of USSAAC members, people who use AAC, their families, and other AAC stakeholders. USSAAC works collaboratively with other organizations to replace AAC tools and devices that are lost or damaged because of a nationally declared disaster.?https://lnkd.in/gSFv2axQ American Red Cross provides many resources including a?Shelter Locator?(https://lnkd.in/e-NiReh) and a?Disaster Safety Plan for People with Disabilities (https://shorturl.at/Zr7tP). Disability Rights California has compiled several resources and provides advocacy for individuals in California. https://lnkd.in/eJyq4p8j Unfortunately, fire can occur anywhere and can be especially devastating to families with children on the spectrum. The ABC Rudy's Legacy Fire Safety Program was created to honor Rudy Alejos, a sweet ABC client who tragically passed away in a fire. The Rudy's Legacy program provides fire safety classes and fire safety kits (https://shorturl.at/iDlQu) to families to improve home fire safety. Finally, as we face potential winter weather next week, we wanted to share resources from Disability Rights Texas on preparing your family for a disaster. https://lnkd.in/gKBZrdSd Sending you safety and warmth <3
