Four BIG reports have been released and are very much worth reviewing -- 1. Global AMR R&D Hub and the World Health Organization AMR Team have written a report entitled “Incentivising the development of new antibacterial treatments“. 2. Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) have released their 2022-2026 Strategic Plan. 3. The UK’s Fleming Fund recently released a major AMR report on its progress to date. 4. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports having awarded more than $36 million for innovative research on AMR topics to diverse partners during Fiscal Year 2021 both within the United States and globally. Well done to our colleagues around the world who did this excellent work! #AMR #AMRSOS #StopSuperbugs #Antibiotics #AntimicrobialStewardship #AntibioticResistance #Medicine #Science #Health #Progress #FireExtinguishersOfMedicine https://lnkd.in/gWAnsvxu

For #WAAW24, I ask you to take a moment to celebrate the World Health Organization Task Force of Antimicrobial Resistance Survivors. Two of its members, Rob Purdie and Ella Balasa, joined me for a Fireside Chat to share their stories and details of their work so far. I really want to encourage you to take time to watch the video. It’s one thing to read a summary, it is another to hear their voices! Last week?I went to New York City to see one of the opening performances of?Lifeline,?The Musical,?the world’s first musical telling the story of penicillin, Sir Alexander Fleming, and the rise of antibiotic resistance!?This was my first time seeing the production in its entirety and it did not disappoint. The timing of this 5-week run of the show aligns with the upcoming?26 Sep 2024 United Nations General Assembly HLM (High-Level Meeting) on AMR, hopefully generating enhanced awareness of AMR. I had a chance to talk to show creator Robin Hiley backstage before the show and it was a fabulous experience. Watch this video for the interview and my review of the show! Wonderful to see the support of the AMR Action Fund at work! Well done to all! ?? #FireExtinguishersOfMedicine ???? #Science #Medicine #Health #News #AntibioticStewardship
Congratulations to the team at UTILITY Therapeutics, an AMR Action Fund portfolio company, which has been granted FDA approval for Pivya (pivmecillinam) to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections (uUTIs). Pivya marks the first drug in approximately 20 years approved by the FDA for uUTIs, and it represents the first antibiotic from one of our portfolio companies to earn approval. This is a milestone for the AMR Action Fund, but more importantly, it is a key step forward for patients and clinicians. UTIs are common, affecting some 15 million women in the U.S. per year, and can be debilitating.?Providing a safe and effective first-line treatment option will benefit patients suffering from these harmful infections while enhancing antimicrobial stewardship efforts.
