We are excited to announce that the Research-to-Impact Practices are available now! https://lnkd.in/gXNqSuPi Schools across America struggle to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities — especially students from historically underserved backgrounds. Over three years, educators, researchers, and content experts developed evidence-based practices to improve learning experiences, environments, and outcomes for Black and Latinx students with disabilities experiencing poverty. The practices are organized into five collections that summarize relevant research and provide step-by-step instructions, case studies from schools in the network, and templates and implementation tools for educators to use in their classrooms. -Turning the Page to Secondary Literacy: Tested practices for schools to identify gaps and implement interventions for secondary readers? -Opening Doors to Collaboration: Interdisciplinary practices for building collaboration between general and special education teams -Navigating Data for Multi-Tiered Systems of Support: Equity-based practices for using data at the district, school, and classroom levels to accelerate student supports -Igniting Postsecondary Aspirations: Proven school-based practices to empower students to transition into meaningful college, career, and community postsecondary pathways -Anchoring Emotions: One school’s skill-based practices for supporting students with emotional-based disabilities We are grateful for the collaboration and partnership of the NIC. I had a chance to sit down with two of my BRILLIANT peers, Toni Barton and Megan Ohlssen, to chat about one of the most important topics in education. Don’t be fooled by the name — this is NOT a “special ed” topic. This is an EVERYONE topic and a must listen. The mindset of “those aren’t my kids” exists in every corner of our system.? For too long, too many educators, leaders, and funders have looked the other way as outcomes for students with learning and thinking differences and those with disabilities continue to stagnate firmly below those of their “gen ed” peers.? It’s 2024, peeps! The majority of students who learn and think differently spend most if not all of their day in the GEN ED setting, taught by general educators. These ARE your kids, and mine, and ours. And we are failing them. As leaders, we cannot with integrity say that we are working toward educational equity unless our mindsets, programming and funding strategically support ALL learners. So let’s start by aligning on a shared definition for “inclusive education,” and let’s all get to work on this.?
